My Staple Diet - Body Lotions/Creams/Butters/Balms

My collection of body products borders on insanity.  Well, to some people anyway, to me it's just good sense.  My family has skin that genetically tends to verge on the dry to very dry depending on surroundings and weather so I have been slathering for nearly 30 years. Wow.  *taking a moment to feel my age*

A few of my recent faves here:

Now I know I harp on about a lot of things - and consider myself an expert in most areas of skincare - but you may officially consider this a peek inside an obsessive's cupboard.

So in a little more detail - this current batch contains:

Sanctuary Ultra Rich Body Butter, Decleor Aromaessence Sculpt Balm, Garnier Summerbody, Nude Smoothing Complex, Jo Malone Tuberose, Burt's Bees Body Lotion, Gatineau Body Lotion with AHA, Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter, all for eve Body Lotion, Clarins Eau Dynamisante Lait Hydratant
And then....

Chantecaille Darby Rose Body Cream, Yes to Carrots Hand to Elbow Moisturising Cream, Soap and Glory The Daily Smooth, Erbaviva Body Lotion, Chanel Coco Body Cream x 2, all for eve Body Butter, Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia Body Cream, Jergens Age Defying and Ultra Hydrating Body Moisturiser, Fresh Rice Dry Oil

So breaking it down my absolute must-haves? Ooh.. first up:

Jergens Naturals Body Moisturisers *The Mouth Recommends - Staple
If you haven't tried Jergens products - you should. Jergens have been on the shelves in our house for as long as I can remember.  Although they only came to the UK recently - they are the best selling bodycare range in the States and have been going since 1882. Under a fiver and as they are sold in Boots - hello 3 for 2! They are 95% natural, contain no parabens and do not test on animals. And lots of flavours for you to try! Have a look: here!

Soap and Glory Righteous Butter  *The Mouth Recommends - Staple
Oh I love a little Soap and Glory.  At some point I swear I have tried everything in the range. But this is my staple. I love it. It's thick, goopy and smells of the signature fruity amber vanilla that I love. It leaves no residue and you can get dressed immediately. Ten pounds for a fat, deep tub that you can scoop your hands right into. And again - 3 for 2! Main ingredient is shea butter - it does contain parabens so if you prefer not to use them it's not for you - although personally they don't bother me and to be fair S&G make no 'natural' claims - more power to them.  Love. Read all about it here.

Garnier Summerbody and Body Repair
I guess you can tell I don't spend the big bucks on body products (exceptions below) - I like to use them liberally - no I mean really liberally.  Hence most things below the waist can be found for under a fiver.  This is moisturising, absorbs easily and smells lovely. Another winner.  And call me really shallow but I love the red packaging.  Have a look.

Chanel Coco Body Cream
Oh Lord.  This is the birthday/Christmas standard.  Chanel Coco is not only my signature fragrance but layered with the perfume, this body cream is just beyond.  I won't linger on the description as perfume is so personal and well, it's Chanel -   bit I do have a little tip for expensive products such as this. Just use it sparingly on your arms and decollete. Use the cheaper lot down under. You'll still get the smell as your body heats up and the fragrance releases but you'll be using less than half that you would if you were using it all over.

What are your favourites? I am always looking for new ones!?

  1. I really like Jergens - they had me with the scent (I used the hydrating and softening ones). I usually don't like body lotions but I quite enjoyed using these. I have recently been using Jason Aloe Vera moisturising creme and which has a lovely texture and sinks in well.

  2. I LOVE my Chloe body lotion, it smells even better then the perfume!

My favourit body lotion is good old Vaseline Aloe Vera, it dries really quick and is really moisturising. Also works weel mixed with self tan to make it less 'sticky'. Smells gorgeous too, and is good for sunburn x

  3. Wow you have loads of body cream, i also have dry skin and i use at least 4 of the ones you have!! Yet to try the S&G one....wouldnt mind you doing a review on the Hei Poa creams as i havnt tried them but heard great reviews of them and i also love the menoi oil smell...great blog x

  4. Now I don't like Jergens at all - I waited on pins for it to appear in UK and was so disappointed, couldn't bear the smell. Similar with Soap and Glory. I like St. Ives 24 hr moisture is good, but my staple is philosophy amazing grace body lotion - I buy the 1000mls from QVC in a duo with the shower/bath/shampoo (yes really) when it is on offer ~ £60 for both, lasts me best part of a year slathering on 2x per day. Thanks for the view into THE CUPBOARD Jan x

  5. I think I must be alone in absolutely hating body lotion. It takes too long to apply, leaves me feeling a bit too coated regardless of how light the cream is... Blech.

  6. I love these kinds of posts!

I’m at work at the moment but I estimate that I have around 10 body lotions/oils currently on the go! Off the top of my head there is Kiehls Creme de Corps, Decleor System Corps, Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil, Waitrose’s Baby Body Butter, Hope & Glory Body Butter, Decleor Aromessence Sculpt, This Works Body Oil, Australian Organics Body Lotion, Elemis Lime and Ginger Body Lotion and Elemis Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt.

Please please would you list your staple/favourite serums and moisturisers next?

  7. Lipstick Mama - did you try a different flavour of Jergens? They all have a diff smell...
and Gemma - fair play! I LOVE feeling coated! OO-ER

  8. Being born in Africa and lived their for a while it was a crime in my house not to moisturise after each bath or shower. From a child I used Johnson's Baby lotion and its still my ultimate fave! Can't do without it. For a special night out, I'll use my No 5 cream on my top half or sometimes use something from Korres, but time and time again, I return to Johnsons. The big pink bottle is never far :-)

  9. I've tried Palmer's cocoa butter which isn't bad but is a bit chocolatey, and I went through a phase of Fresh's Sugar Lemon body lotion but it's full of parabens etc. Now, my fave is one I've used for over a year and have re-bought several times. It's v expensive but it sinks in fast, isn't greasy, is really moisturising (in both hot humidity and cold harsh windy cold French winters!), and that is Kiehl's Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion (stupid name). But is loooovely.

  10. The products sound really great...Lets see if any of these are available in India??
Great post and lovely blog too!!

  11. Palmers cocoa butter formula, under a fiver, and leaves your skin so so soft just love it!

  12. Hello!! I am a recent convert to looking after my skin - at the age of 23! Your blog is AWESOME - the way you explain things just makes sense, and you have a wicked sense of humour to boot. I already have a list of stuff waiting to be purchased on pay day!! But I was wondering - what do you think of the Burt's Bees facial cleansers, toner and moosturisers? I love their lip balm and body moisturiser, and wondered about their face products too? Thanks :)

  13. I wish that it were possible to get the Palmer's Shea Butter body moisturiser in Ireland but it's impossible! One of my faves. No nasty scent and really good. I also love the Aveeno Creamy Oil. Anything with mineral oil clogs the pores on my chest and on the backs of my arms so I avoid as much as possible.

Caroline, any chance you could do an update on this post and also include body oils?

(BTW this is my first comment on here but I have been a fan for ages and recommended you to every beauty obsessive I know!)

  14. i absolutely love the soap and glory righteous body butter it smells divine, every time I use it my partner says to me what perfume are you wearing lol. Also just have to say I think you're amazing caroline, I discovered you through pixiwoo and im now obsessed with skincare and just about to spend £150 on all the recommended products you have suggested such as liquid gold, pixi glow tonic, emma hardie cleansing balm, la roche posay serozinc, also some decent eye cream and a moisturiser and also lots of new white flannels ;)
