Additional info?
One of the best sellers in the UK and Europe, this formula may differ in the USA unless you bring it in from a European seller, be warned.

Creme - £15.50 for 50ml
Lotion - £17.00 for 50ml

Both available from Boots.com - word of caution - Boots.com says that it contains fragrance - they're wrong. Relax. It doesn't. Someone is clearly confused by the term 'sans parfum'. ;)

  1. I actually really love the lotion. One time my face was really sore from the sun and I tried aloe Vera and everything but it would just be sore, but then when I went to put on this spf it actually soothe my skin!

  2. A lot of alcohol though...

  3. Good morning Caroline! Thank you so much for all your wonderful advice, my skin has had a turn for the better :)
Quick question: I have the La Roche-Posay Antholios 40 with Memory SX and I purchased it in the US. Here are the inactive ingredients: carbomer 940, carbomer copolymer type B, cyclimethicone, dimethicone, edetate disodium, glycerin (these are the ones at the top of the list on the list). Active ingredients are avobenzone, ecamsule, octocrylene, and titanium dioxide.

    Yay or nay? :)

Good luck on your trip! Thank you so much!!

  4. i'm still very confused by the amounts to put on the face. I actually (obsessively ridiculous i realize) measured my face (there's a formula on FutureDerm!) and found i need almost 1/4 tsp for the face...but that amount varies with the type of sunscreen. With the Anthelios Ultra Light (I'm in canada) that amount is do-able because as a liquid it seems less product is needed for that volume compared with Clinique City Block which is a heavy cream--that takes me two applications to get that amount on my face. anyone got some insight? i hope Caroline is not answering these while on holiday!

  5. Hi Caroline, I have a question about sunscreen expiration. Does it expire one year from when you bought it, or when you open it? Thank you in advance!

    1. according to FDA sunscreen valid for 3 years from date of issue. once you open it degrades quickly usually within a year, companies indicate how long a product may stay effective after opening by a pictogram ( it is an opened jar with 6M or 12M at center which is on any tube/jar ). also keep in mind that extreme temperatures break down some chemical filters. so dont store your sunscreen inside your car or at beach bag.

  6. I was about to buy this earlier this summer, but didn't when I saw how high up alcohol denat is among the ingredients. Should I not worry about alcohol in sunscreen? Thanks! /Anna

  7. Random question for you or one of your wonderful followers! Does anyone find the water where they live affecting their skin? I live in Bristol, water is really hard. I don't get much effect from skincare whatever I use. My skin remains oily, appearance of open pores etc. I've tried not using water but tissuing off makes me prone to breakouts. And yet. Here I am in North Devon and my skin is awesome. I'm barely wearing makeup. Just concealer on my circles. My skincare is giving me awesome results. It's the same when I stay away with work too. Lol leaving Bristol isn't exactly practical. Has anyone else noticed this and found a way around it? Thanks all!

    1. Not sure of a way round it! I find the same where I live too. In London the water makes my skin really patchy but back in Wales it's all good. Of course could be the pollution!

    2. I really few like the water affects me too. Would love Ms. Hirons' opinion on it, or from anyone who has been able to deal with this.

    3. The water where I live is really good, but when I go and see my parents, for example, my skin reacts, and I'm sure it's partly because of the water.
Coincidentally just yesterday a friend told me she is thinking of installing some ionising filter in her house, because she suffers from extreme dry skin... She is waiting for a price quote from the company ;)

    4. Thanks everyone, good to see I'm not alone. I think it all depends on the type of softener /filter installed. My mum and dad had one on their old house. Can honestly say I didn't notice a difference on my skin but oily not dry. The drinking water filter was brilliant though. I'm in a rental flat so installing something like this is out of the question for me!

  8. Bought this because it has all the ingredients you want in an SPF (and there is no smell !!! and the consistency is just lovely for both cream and lotion) but even I - and I'm as white as a pint of milk - looked like Caspar the Ghost after application. Also after it dried there were white streaks (!) on my face. And to top it off the stuff really burns which says to me it's a little to heavy in alcohol. I was really gutted: it's such a good formula. Definitely not for the face. Will stay with my reliable Zelens.

  9. Yes, hard water causes me skin issues, soft water makes it all lovely. Buy a softener!

    1. Thanks Helen. A softener is worth looking into. I would need something that is portable and freestanding as I live in a rented flat and can't have anything physically installed.

  10. Thank You Caroline! As a yes/no answer to our question about this product, this rocks!
Now fretting about alcohol as I am about to fly off. Ah well. I will go and be a guinea pig...
    Happy hols.

  11. Had a sample of this and loved the texture, but sadly it gave me little white spots all over my chin. Oh well, it's probably the silicone...

  12. I've used the Anthelios cream on my body ever since it was first launched. I'm incredibly fair and it's the only thing that prevents me from getting burnt or even very tan in the summertime. I was in Hawaii for a week and people commented that I came back the exact same shade I left-I take that as a true testament to how good their sunscreen is!

Personally, I found the facial sunscreen terrible under makeup, which was a real bummer. I still find the Shiseido facial sunscreen the best under makeup.

  13. Great series about sun protection. If I can, I suggest some options, try the asian ones. They're brilliant and usually put the western sunscreens to shame (shiseido wet force is relatively easy to find over here; Considering ebay, you can try the japanese nivea - different manufacturer from our nivea, and all the bioré lines).

  14. I bought this after finding myself allergic to every other SPF I've tried and once again I've found out I'm allergic! Please help me Caroline, any ideas what exactly I'm allergic to and what else I can use. I'm starting to freak out about my lack of SPF in my daily routine. I've never been allergic to any foundations with SPF in, only straight up SPF. I come up in a horrible spotty rash exactly where the product has been. *sigh* deflated and scared to go outside

  15. Hi Caroline, although I can't find on the UK website, the German and French websites offer PPD information. UK SPF 50+ Anthelios XL Fluid have the same ingredients but the creme one is different from them.

  16. Hi Caroline, does the alcohol in this create skin issues as it is high up on the ingredients list? Thanks as always
