Works well with?
Anything serum-wise

What’s the website like?
Not great, the UK one os better than the US one

How’s the distribution? Available freely or limited?

What’s good about it?
This is soothing, and definitely something to look at if your skin is compromised in any way. It doesn't block your pores (see below), the formula is sophisticated for a good price, it's hydrating and softening. Works well over any serum or oil (that I've used with it) such as Vintner's Daughter, Zelens Treatment Drops, without interfering with the process. One to think about for the current weather (winter!).

What’s not so good about it?
I can't use it for more than a few days at a time, although on reflection, this could be because it works, repairs your acid mantle, and then you don't need it anymore, so the formula builds up your skin and you (I) get a couple of teeny whiteheads overnight, and then stop!

Would I purchase/repurchase?
Yes, affordable and a good moisturiser

Do you need it?
If your acid mantle is compromised, if your skin sensitised or reactive, yes. Consider it.

  1. Hello Caroline! Anxiously waiting for your box! Could you suggest a water based serum for a 40stg lady? Tks xx

  2. Sorry, but I can't find the Shea butter in the ingredient's list?!

    1. Thank you so much for commenting - I posted two halves of diff reviews. I prep reviews at the weekend, and then type them up, and then cut and paste, clearly I need to be more careful! Thank you!

  3. Sounds great for my skin, finding a good moisturizer for sensitive skins which doesn't block pores can sometimes be very tricky, that's why I love La Solution 10 de Chanel so much!

  4. Hello Caroline,

How do I know if my acid mantle is compromised?

    Many thanks,

  5. Skin compromised, acid mantle damaged, yep, yep. This post describes how my skin is right now exactly.

Has any one else found that their hyaluronic acid heavy products seem to be having the opposite of their desired effect? I may be going nuts but I'm almost convinced that all the hyaluronic acid I'm using is making my skin much drier and feeling fragile. :-/ Looking for alternatives or tips on making the H.A products work properly if anybody has any suggestions....please. :-)

    1. Try The Ordinary products from Deciem. Their website explains "Many products have used HA to claim hydration benefits, but HA is too large of a molecule to penetrate the skin and instead sits on the surface and can draw moisture out of the skin making the surface feel soft and hydrated temporarily, while making you feel like you need more HA after the product is rinsed"

    2. Seconding The Ordinary. Take a look at their new (just released today) surface hydration cream, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. It might be just what you need.

    3. Sorry, meant to add a link to The Ordinary product.

    4. Thank you both so much for taking the time to reply. :-) x

  6. Off to find out if my acid mantle is compromised. I bet there is some inf on the blog here somewhere.

  7. Hi Caroline!
Off topic question: every time I have my upper lip threaded, I break out! I've tried a few things in an attempt to resolve the issue but nothing has worked yet. Do you happen to know why this happens? It's just removing hair by way of pulling it out with a piece of thread! No chemicals or residue. I even bybpass the witch hazel afterwards cause I thought the alcohol content was the culprit. Thanks so much! I know it's nuts for you right now.

    1. Hi Rachel, tell your aesthetician. Years ago, when I used to get my upper lip waxed, I had the same problem - a little mustache of red dots afterwards. My aesthetician told me it was caused by bacteria getting into the microscopic holes left by yanking out the hairs. She started going over the area with a blue light UV device (kills bacteria) for a few minutes after the waxing and that solved the problem.

    2. Thank you! I will see how this works here soon. Xx

    3. Thank you! I will see how addressing the bacteria works. I just go to a Threading place and a sweet gal does it for me. So I either need to cleanse before going or find a certified aesthetician. :) XX

  8. Also unsure - what is the acid mantle & how do you know if it's compromised?

  9. Their original MLE cream is a staple for my relatively dry/dehydrated, sensitive skin. I enjoy flirting with more exciting products, but always go back to this simply because it's so reliable (I live in Korea so Atopalm is not hard to source, which may also be a factor).
