Suitable for pregnancy?

Natural? Organic? Man made? Vegan?
Vegan, organic, sustainably farmed and wild-harvested

How does it smell?
Divine. Intensely overwhelming in the best, relaxing, way. Slightly floral but light.

How do you use it?
I apply one pump into the palm of my hand, do the therapist swipe, and go straight onto the skin, massaging as I go. After acids, under moisturisers.

Can it be taken around the eyes?
Yes, it's lovely as an eye serum

Best for winter or summer?

How long did I test it for?
I've been using this for a couple of years, on and off.

How much is it? /Size
£96.00/$120.00 for 20ml

Works well with?
Anything, but if you use it under things like The Blue Cocoon, it's almost savage in its intensity and glow. And that's a compliment.

What’s the website like?
Good. Not a ton of information but it lists ingredients and has videos demoing application etc.

How’s the distribution? Available freely or limited?
Selected distribution across lovely doors like Barneys, Cult Beauty and Liberty.

What’s good about it?
This is a divine serum-oil that contains 20 botanical oils along with CoQ10 via ubiquinone, a fat-soluble vitamin-like substance that although naturally found in the body, is the first antioxidant to disappear from the skin as soon as we are exposed to sunlight. CoQ10 levels also decrease as we age (doesn't everything?!) and it is hard to absorb, hence adding it to a fatty, liposome formula to aid penetration.
The oils are a mixture of nourishing, regenerating, hydrating, omega-heavy and healing. The serum is extremely light, almost runny in its texture, and absorbs immediately. Long-term effects are softer, smoother, brighter skin, that is more protected due to the CoQ10.

What’s not so good about it?
It's not cheap and it's only a 20ml bottle, but in this case you're getting extremely high quality oils/ingredients for your money. Due to the natural state and quality of the ingredients, it's almost orange in colour, which may stain your pillowcases if you lay down too soon. This is a natural colour and will vary slightly by each batch depending on the crop.

Would I purchase/repurchase?
Yes. Obviously I did not pay for it, but I would/will when the time comes.

Do you need it?
Yes, if you can afford it. If you can't afford it at the moment, look at The Ordinary's Buffet and mix it with their Rosehip Oil. It won't be the same, but we have to work with what we can afford financially!

  1. One of my favourite skincare products ever, can't say enough good things about it. It's the only serum that hydrates my cheeks perfectly without making the t-zone oily. Re: it being only a 20ml bottle - I'm on my third bottle, the previous ones lasted 4 months each, and we're talking daily use. I found out about May's line via your blog, Caroline - thanks so much for helping me find this gem!

  2. Hi Caroline,
i konow this is off topic but just a quick question: Silicone (DIMETHICONE) in Rosacea Serums? Or moisturiser? Good, bad or doesn't matter?
    Have a lovely evening

  3. I love, love, love this product. I apply it & instantly feel relaxed. Plus my skin looks gorgeous the next morning

  4. For people who have tried both youth dew and vintner's daughter, how do they compare?

  5. I'm using Vitners Daughter, do I repurchase that or try the youth dew?
    Please don't say I need both ;)

    1. I was wondering the same thing! I have and LOVE vintners daughter and wasn't sure if it was worth it to have both!

  6. Is black chicken in the same league?

  7. When does this serum have a bigger impact: as part of a morning or evening routine?

  8. oooh I've just mixed up a facial oil using lots of the same oils, glad to see I'm on the right lines!!

  9. Thank you for inserting the comment about the Ordinaries alternative for those who are financially restricted. We have all been there at one point or another. I am currently working through quite a few serums and oils, but this looks amazing!

Question-- hypothetically, would the Buffet mix equally as well with a rosehip oil like the one from Pai? Skin care newbie right here...

    1. I am currently using Buffet with Pai Rosehip Oil and my skin is loving it, hope that helps!

    2. Thank you Vivvy, that definitely helps! :)

    3. might sound super daft... but are you mixing Buffet with Pai Rosehip OR applying Buffet waiting a while then applying Pai separately? x

  10. Hi Caroline, Any idea how does it compare with the trilogy CoQ10? Third of the price, hence I'm asking.

  11. Hi Caroline. I usually have moderate acne, but since starting Slimming World I have had a large increase in the number of spots on my face. I know you say your skin doesn't 'purge' but I haven't changed my skincare routine and was wondering if significantly changing my diet is causing the extra breakouts?

  12. Hi Caroline,

I've been wondering for a while - how can a serum or oil be a "hydrating" serum or oil if it is intact based in oil? I was under the impression that designated hydrating products were to attract more water to the skin, rather than oil. Thinking of the Youth Dew and Clarins Blue Orchid specifically.

Would love to have a pearl of your wisdom in this! Thanks so much for all you do, you've changed my face 🙂

  13. I did try a teeny sample of this in an Alyka sample set and it is a lovely fine textured oil. But I'm still in love with my Sjal oil so doubt I'll purchase this. It's strange that only 20ml rather than the usual 30 as well.... Makes it seem even more unaffordable. But it is a lovely product for sure.

  14. Way too toppy for me unfortunately but, I have been using The Ordinary's Rosehip with the Buffet and loving it - so thank you :-)

  15. Way too toppy for me unfortunately but, I'm loving The Ordinary's Rosehip with Buffet! Thank you :-)

  16. So many oils! Not sure whether my skin would be able to handle it but it sounds gorgeous!
