Where to go for Treatments?

The first few clinics added to this page are ones tried and tested by me. I trust all of these professionals implicitly with my face. They are all extremely skilled with years of experience and different skill sets between them. All of these locations will charge you for their time and then give you what they think your skin needs. There are no 'conveyor-belt' facials here.

LONDON

Teresa Tarmey - Notting Hill W11
Obviously I'm going to start with my current home - Notting Hill is home to Teresa's beautiful clinic where she and her team provide the very latest in the very best technology, along with years of experience. Everything from peels to fractional radiofrequency, mesotherapy, LED - and Teresa's speciality - anything and everything laser. Pigmentation, acne, scarring, ageing skin - drop them a line - they can help. Teresa also retails the brilliant NeoStrata, Heliocare and others.
I would describe TT's facials as super hi-tec - and you pay for the time, not specified treatments - always my preference.

Mortar & Milk - Fulham SW6
Pam Marshall's Mortar & Milk is so new that the website isn't even finished, but the treatment rooms are. Pam is a California native and UK trained clinical aesthetician, specialising in bespoke skin treatments with 12 years experience. Each clients journey is different, so every treatment is completely tailored, and the new clinic is a beautiful, fresh, clean space situated in the Parson Green area of Fulham Road with great retail brands. Pam's treatments are a mixture of hi-tec and traditional feel-good-yet-get-results intensive facial massage.
I would class Pam as middle hi-tec and pampering. Gorgeous. you pay for your time, not the set treatment.
Contact: 793 Fulham Rd, London SW6 5HD - 020 7731 3415

Sarah Brown - Trevor Sorbie - Covent Garden
I've been having facials with Sarah Brown for years. Sarah originally founded the Beauty a La Carte treatment rooms in Fortnum & Mason and headed them up until they were closed last year. Sarah moved across town to Trevor Sorbie's Salon in Covent Garden where you can now visit her for a good thorough traditional facial including steam/extraction, microdermabrasion and a massage that will have you asleep in minutes.
Sarah is traditional mid-tec with a lot of massage. You pay for your time, not the set treatment.
She can be contacted here: trevorsorbie.com/beauty

Jordan is trained and certified in all major procedures including manual lymphatic drainage facial massage, microdermabrasion, micro-current and LED light therapy, and continues to stay on top of the leading-edge skin technology, treatments and ingredients to give the latest skin treatments to his customers.

  3. Emma at Brooklyn Herborium in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. Emma is a very kind and skilled aesthetician who gives you a proper facial with massage, exfoliation, extraction, masque and hot stone treatment, with add-ons such as Phototherapy Treatment and Facial Point Stimulation. I went in when I had a bad case of cystic acne combined with stress from work. Her thorough and proper extractions (no scarring) combined with all the add-ons made my skin look amazing. Emma told me that I would see gradual results the week after the facial, and I was surprised by how radiant my skin became. I only wish I could afford to go more often. She has her own line of handmade "green" skincare/body/aromatherapy products that might come across as a bit too hippie-ish for some, but they are great. She is definitely a fan of oils and oil cleansing, and is amazing at blending essential oils. (www.brooklynherborium.com)

  14. I love my facialist Josh at MZ Skincare in Boston, MA! Very focused on long-term relationships to improve skin over time rather than a one time spa facial. He is extremely knowledgable and I always pick his brain about how products work and why my skin acts the way it does. My skin has improved so much since starting with him; I'm much more confident now and have a better understanding of how to keep it this way!

  18. Hi Caroline, I want to thank you so much for recommending Teresa Tarmey. I checked out her website after you first mentioned her clinic on your blog and immediately booked into see her. She is absolutely wonderful and has helped me so much in the last two weeks that I feel that I might actually end up with clear, 'normal' skin, after years of experimenting and despairing. I've now booked in for a series of treatments to really blitz the spots. I can't recommend her enough.

  23. I go to Debbie Thomas's clinic on the Kings Road (www.debbiethomas.co.uk). I have troubled skin (a lot of travelling) and rosacea and this has been a lifesaver for me. It is expensive (and uses lasers) but I prefer to go every couple of months to Debbie and her team than waste money on more frequent facials elsewhere. These are not "60 mins of whale sounds and nice smell" facials; they can be a little nippy (lasers). But the results are unquestionable.

Jo’s facials are truly unique, she really takes the time to get to know you and your current skincare routine to create a bespoke facial to suit your own needs. She is extremely knowledgeable on all things skincare and goes out of her way to offer advice on brands and products that will work for you. She uses a wide range of the best products available and has introduced me to brands like Niod and Ermana. It’s always a joy to visit Jo for a facial, she’s always smiling and is great fun to chat to, can highly recommend her!

  37. Another New York recommendation - hands down the best facial I have ever had, with De Anna at Silver Mirror. The basis is facials as part of skincare maintenance and - although my skin looks incredible after one session, with pores and lines vanished, some nasty under skin lurking cysts brought to heads and nuked, and cheekbones that appeared out of nowhere - I'm definitely going back on a regular basis. Lots of Korean based ideas, some very high tech tools - and absolutely no FAFFING about. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The deep cleanse facial is very thorough, with excellent extractions (not exactly comfortable, but incredibly effective, and my skin was not left red, just clear). Also, excellent massage, Lenka clearly understands muscle tissue, plus her 11 years experience is clearly evident. That's before you get to the price, great value for money.

  42. Firstly, Caroline I love this idea. May I thank those who posted about Jo at 33 Dowanhill in Glasgow. After reading your recommendations I got booked in and this afternoon I spent a wonderful 2 hours chatting all things skincare and having the best facial I have ever had (I have been to Biologique Recherche in Paris so the bar was high !) She spent a long time getting to 'know' my skin and routine before delivering a fabulous bespoke facial that left my skin glowing. I would happily have paid the very reasonable price for the chat alone, the facial was an added bonus ! I cannot recommend her highly enough - thank you so much to those who brought Jo and her lovely salon to my attention.

    1. I too found Jo at 33 Dowanhill in Glasgow through the recommendations on this page. I travelled through from Edinburgh and she was well worth the visit. Firstly Jo was so warm and welcoming and I took to her instantly. She took her time to speak to me and get to know my skin and my concerns. Then, my goodness, gave me the most amazing facial ever. Her massage technique is fabulous. A couple of days on my skin just keeps glowing. She followed up with a lovely email with some skincare recommendations. Already planning my next visit.

  46. My experience of facials- generally relaxing, nice but uneventful and I have never seen a dramatic benefit to my skin... until now. Joanna at 33 Dowanhill in Glasgow is honestly the best experience I have ever had.
She took time to get to know me, the history of my skin and what I was looking for out of the treatment. Being the skincare junkie I am, I was especially interested to see what products she used, not being affiliated to any one brand. How pleased I was when we talked about Oskia, Niod, Zelens and Pixi. Safe to say the facial itself was magical and my skin is still glowing days later. She also gave me some great recommendations to add into my routine and I am looking forward to seeing Joanna again.
