Why am I still getting spots like a teenager around my jawline I follow your routine and advice to a T :( and I can't find a way to ask you this which results in a yes/no answer :'( xx
I was able to rid myself of this problem. I saw quick results using a fairly strong AHA/BHA treatment (Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peel). << Not sure if it complies with all of Caroline's advice but I'm pretty sure it doesn't contain alcohol. It does contain retinol and vitamin C.
Another thing I did around the same time was to cut out dairy products from my diet and cut out sugary drinks. I did this because of other health issues, but since then I've greatly cut back on the exfoliating treatments (1-2x a week now) and my acne has not come back. So I think it may have something to do with my diet.
By the way I'm in my 40s and had cystic acne all my life since I was 12 but it's gone now. Age might have something to do with it but since I saw such dramatic results in a short time, I think the acids and the diet change must have had something to do with it.
Periods never been ok I'm on the implant?!?i think everything's ok down there causes me no bother....I don't take supplements and soy!!!....I'm on it HUGE thank you :)
Hi Bettina and thank you I'm 28 :( I use liquid gold I've cut out dairy but still get the really angry red my face is killing spots on the bottom half of my face I started at 12 too as full face acne but now it's just my jawline!!x
I had the Mirena implant about 4 or 5 years ago (was 24-25 yrs old then) and 8 months after having it put it, I started getting cystic acne on my neck and jawline. It wasn't coinciding with my cycle, it was there all month long. I had acne since I was a teenager but never on my neck or jaw like that. I finally broke down and decided to consult a dermatologist for the first time in my life because it was so bad/annoying. She told me breakouts on the jawline and neck are due to hormone inbalances and she said it could definitely be due to the Mirena implant and that I should speak to my ob/gyn about it. I had it removed and slowly the acne went away and my skin is crystal clear now.
I would also suggest cutting out the dairy, it helped me a lot! Not so sure about too much soy though, there also have been studies that show that it is not as good as we like to believe... be careful with it!
I am looking forward to the cleansing balm comaparation summary. I have poily and young (24) skin but using your regime made my skin much better! You are amazing
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the La Roche Posay spf products, I'm considering buying at the moment but I'll wait for your opinion I think.
YES YES YES!! so looking forward to this! I know you have a BILLION posts ideas (and very little time) but maybe a cheat sheet on specific skin problems like eczema/psoriasis etc would be great! and on men's skincare! my bf has psoriasis and sometimes it pops up even on his face poor thing...it would be nice to help him somehow!! Just if you can, I know you are a VERY busy lasy these days (you so deserve it!)!thank you Caroline!!
Oh, it would be so great if you could do something more about men's skincare! I'm sorting out a new skinroutine for my OH. Looking into the moisterizers of Anthony, they all seem to have some kind of acids in it. Is this ok for a dehydr/oily skin? Thank soooo much! Cannot wait for the reviews, still need a lot of stuff myself as well ;-) xxx Eileen
Really looking forward to your opinion on the Monu clansing balm. I have their Monu Soothing Touch Recovery Balm and it's lovely when my skin is upset, feeling irritated and awful. I actually ordered their cleansing balm after using the cream for a while. It annoys me that I can't seem to find the ingedients ANYWHERE though, just "active ingredients". Yes that's fine, but I'd like to know what else is in there! Still haven't recieved my order so I guess I'll find out in a few days.
Seriously, your blog is like crack for me- I'm developing a fairly serious skincare addiction and ill be mainlining these posts like bejaysus. God help me 😂
Hello! Would you have any tips regarding lip care? So far I use lip balms (mostly body shop or lip smackers) and during the summer I put on a layer of my spf underneath. The older women in my family have very discolored and dry, chapped lips. Is there anything I can do now to prevent this (exfoliating, cleansing, using organic products/not)? Thank you Lisa
i'm not caroline but suffer terribly with dry lips and this is what i have gathered by trial, research, and error: NO vaseline, carmex, anything that contains petroleum as these all only moisturise is the short term and actually make your lips worse; exfoliate using olive oil and sugar mixed in in an egg cup when lips are v chapped; best lip balms are nuxe reve de miel, hourglass lip treatment oil and korres' lip butters (for day time). the only lip colours that actively hydrate my lips are guerlain's, clinique's chubby sticks, dior's and armani's. revlon lip butters are the most drying non matte lipstick ive ever used.
I have scarring on my chin from spots (it is quite red) and I just wondered if P50w would help or is there another product that you would recommend. I have acne prone, sensitive skin. If yes to p50w should I just use it a couple of times a week as my skin can be sensitive or do you think every day should be ok?
Will you be doing anymore face to face appointments in London like those in F&M on 11th. I need a skincare overhaul!!
Looking forward to the cleanser post, I was just about to purchase the Emma Hardie one but will hang fire unless you enable me by telling me it beats them all :-)
So excited for these posts am looking for a second cleanser to use in my double cleanse and in the morning I'm using the Elemis melting gel cleanser at the moment but would like another option could you reccomend anything? Thanks in advance :) Heather
For lip balms, you should avoid anything that contains vaseline, mineral oil or paraffin liquidium, that stuff will coat your lips and made them dependent on you smearing more of that horrid stuff. Considering we lick our lips a lot, stick to natural and organic. Lips react differently, some are more sensitive to certain oil (I can't have anything with grapefruit, mint or ginger or my lips will peel). Check out L'Occitane, Hurraw, Fig & Rouge, Nuxe, Burts Bees, Crazy Rumours, Lavera, Lush Cosmetics, etc. They are inexpensive, so chances are you will find one that your lips will love! Just remember, read the label! Good luck!

Actually, a separate post about lip-care would be absolutely lovely! I love your take on skincare and would also love to hear your thoughts on the topic of lip-care.
How often do you recommend clay masks be used for acne skin? I find myself using masks almost every alternate day, could this be doing more harm than good? Thanks! Kay x
Hi Caroline! I've been getting several white bumps and spots around my mouth, and it's itching like crazy. I've tried putting aloe vera and La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo on the areas, but it seems to be worsening. I think it's milia, but I didn't know milia itches so.
I'm worried it's secondary milia, because the areas they are on were areas I kept scratching hours before. Please help!

What do you think of micheal todd's organic skin care? And also paula's choice toners with 2% salicylic acid - I have oily, acne prone skin and im going on holiday where it gets over 40 degrees. So I need something to keep my blemishes at a bay including oil but also calming and refreshing. Hope u can recommend some products
I'm also currently trying out the SPF 50+ oil by Anthelios and so far, I really like it, because it spreads easily and doesn't dry out my skin. Looking forward to your post on it!
Hi Caroline! I just want to thank you for this amazing post. I've already made my plans for the products I need to buy as to follow your advice. Perhaps you should think to make a video as to show us the whole process and the proper application of the products. I would also like to ask your opinion about a product that I used for two months and I'm very pleased the"Kiehl's Rare Eart Pore Daily Cleanser". I look forward to your next posts! Cyprus love you very much!
Lucky lucky us! I am a new reader thanks to Pixiwoo and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog since discovering it. Us girls of a certain age (44 and proud of it...and a huge Duran Duran fan back in the day!) need all the help we can get. You do good work - thank you!
I am so excited to read your blog (thanks to Pixiwoo). I turned the big 3-0 this year (feeling quite wompy about it) and dedicated this year to really working on my skin. I've gone through your posts and was wondering if you could speak to retinol/rentin-A and all forms of. Thanks so much for your time!
Cannot wait for the cleansing balms post! I'm just on the verge of adding one to my routine so will be interested to hear your thoughts first - although I think we all know which one is your favourite by now, ha.
I have tried the Sun Protective Oil from LRP last week (when the sun decided to show up before going back home) and it is great ! Having such a high protection in it when it is an oil is very rare and it really moisturize (not as much as a body cream of course) the skin !
Could you possibly do one on broken capillaries? I guess lasers are the only thing that will get rid of them but I think I've given myself broken veins with the products I've used to get rid of the other 101 skin woes.
As I Scrolled down looking at the various products you will be posting about, I thought to myself... I rarely see anyone talking about DeCleor! Voila...the very next photo...a Decleor product. Having been a long time devotee of the De Cleor line I look forward to your review! I do hope you might explore their line a tad more ... especially as their products are exceptional in & for the care of us "mature" skinned ladies! Ox Care
Hi can you suggest a good cleanser for sensitive skin with an oily t zone. I'm using ren hydra calm and clay cleanser which I find soothing but getting a few spots on my chin even though I use a clean flannel to remove. I'm not sure how to balance my sensitivity with a thorough clean on my t zone. Please help x
I'm ridiculously looking forward to what is coming next....as ever! I am always checking daily (or multiple times a day) just in case you post anything. It was an honour to meet you, I told my boyfriend you are a beauty hero because "what you don't know is either not worth knowing or you just haven't gotten there yet". I'm slowly filling my head with all the [factual] beauty knowledge and product info I can get my hands on in an attempt to be better informed and working to conquer my fibromyalgia to wash my face twice a day despite the fatigue because my skin has never looked better!
I bought the intral toner and bought a couple products from the Kinara brand (because they are based from my hometown and I never heard of them until I got to London and I finally found a UK stockists!) and adding this and that in until I find a good balance. Thank you so much for your advice! Someday I hope I can buy enough of your time until we can just sit and talk about Sons of Anarchy instead of having an appointment. Swoon!
Hi Caroline! I was wondering what thoughts you might have on Chanel's new range of 'Synchronizing' skincare (le jour, la nuit, le weekend)? Gimmick or Science?
Dear Caroline, Great Blog! I'm just wondering if you are planning on reviewing some of Paula's Choice products (I know you don't like her that much, but how so you feel about her products?) and Skin Biology Therapy (Quite an expensive German skincare brand, looks promising, I am thinking about trying it but it's so expensive, so I would love for a Pro like you to say something good about it!)? Thank you very much!
Can't find Emma Hardie cleansing balm anywhere in the US (or online at the moment) so I'm on a quest for a comparable product. I'm so excited to hear your reviews on the above pictured balms!
Your blog has changed my life, thank you ! I have a query regarding hyper pigmentation as during the recent spell of hot weather I have a developed a large, brown patch on my forehead, despite wearing SPF 30. Can you recommend a product/products which would treat the affected area and a suncare brand to prevent further damage ? Many thanks xxx
Hello Caroline, Can you advise on what type of sunscreen if any should someone with acne use. Should they in fact use sunscreen at all? I've done some checking but have not really come across any suggestions on this particular topic.
This skincare industry is driving me mad. I am so lost, SO LOST, and confused, it breaks my heart.
Quickly: I have perioral dermatitis, painful hormonal break out on my chin, rosacea on my cheeks (as well as odd pimples), oily t-zone, dehydrated all around... I think?? I am not even sure anymore what my skin is doing and what type of skin I have as it seems like it is changing all the F time.
Anyway.
I am sad because I cannot seem to find out what is good and what is not good in skincare. I have been into skincare for a long time, been reading the best blogs out there for at least 6 months, read infos from organic/natural/clean (ISH) skincare companies and SERIOUSLY it is a NIGHTMARE. I think I just read too much. Too much info and I cannot break it down. Bought too much stuff that is not working for my I-only-have-2-pair-of-shoes-and-cannot-afford-more-than-that kind of budget.
What's up with PEG (that's the one I don't understand), ALCOCHOL DENAT (how do we know exactly when it is good, like Liquid gold), ALCOHOL in genereal, PHENOXYETHANOL...
Per example, Emma Hardie is a well-loved cleanser all over the internet and for me, it is definitely the hardest product to understand because it contains loads of that so-called bad stuff(PEG/various types - Benzyl Alcohol - Phenoxyethanol, alouette...)
Where can we draw the line? Where do YOU draw the line?
I've stop SLS and props to me, that was a good thing to do for my perioral dermatitis. But how far do I have to go with the rest of the ''harmful ingredients'' list crazyness?
I am seriously going insane and it does not help me to sort my skin out.
Hopefully you will find some time to do a post about this issue.
Thank you so much to share all your knowledge on the internet, you are incredible. xo

DeleteThe Implant can cause quite bad acne but then most hormonal contraception can - if it is persistant then see a dermatologist :)

ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the reviews on the cleansing balms, love to know how they compare. I'm not going to buy anything until I read your reviews!
ReplyDeleteWhich Hazel?
Any tips on minimising the thickness of top lip hair? Or, making the skin on the top lip smoother to avoid drawing attention to it
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your thoughts about the Georgia Louise balm! It sounds so good!!!!

ReplyDeleteDear Caroline,
Great Blog!

Hi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteYour blog has changed my life, thank you ! I have a query regarding hyper pigmentation as during the recent spell of hot weather I have a developed a large, brown patch on my forehead, despite wearing SPF 30. Can you recommend a product/products which would treat the affected area and a suncare brand to prevent further damage ? Many thanks xxx

ReplyDeleteHello Caroline,
ReplyDeleteCan you advise on what type of sunscreen if any should someone with acne use. Should they in fact use sunscreen at all?
I've done some checking but have not really come across any suggestions on this particular topic.
Wen.
Hi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteThis skincare industry is driving me mad.
Thank you so much to share all your knowledge on the internet, you are incredible. xo
I'm looking forward to seeing all of these posts!
