Aerin Rose Oil

Oils are the one product I cannot live without. If pushed, they would be the one thing I would take to an island. Whether for cleansing or massage, everyone needs one. I've been using them for so long that I tend to not talk about them that often - but after a little sort out recently, I have so many suggestions that I figured I would share them more often..

One of the most recent finds to land on my desk is the new Rose Oil from Aerin. This has completely surprised me. I think I was expecting it to be a heavier consistency and more traditionally scented, I don't know. 

Oil manufacturers have a constant dilemma on their hands with scent and keeping customers happy. The best oils for the skin frequently stink. They just do. I don't mean they're 'slightly unpleasant', I mean they full-on PONG. When Sunday Riley launched Juno, which is fragrance-free, India Knight called the smell 'faecal' in the Times (I have to say, it didn't hurt sales at all). If you've used it you'll know what she means, although it never bothered me personally. 

So a lot of brands add a little fragrance, to counteract the smell. Then customers kick off about 'cell death' and other such extremes and it seems we're in a never-ending circle. 

For the record, I don't mind essential oil or fragrance in my products, the key for me is the quality and the quantity, not the fact that they are in there in the first place. And I don't agree with Beautypedia about essential oils causing 'cell death'. Nothing new there, but I've been asked about that in particular a lot lately so probably worth mentioning. 

'Oh but there are studies that show...' ... There are studies for both sides, always have been, always will be.

Anyway: the heavy consistency/overpowering fragrance is not what we have here. This is lovely and light, I mean really light. And the scent is fresh and subtle, again, really subtle. Some rose-based oils smell musty and are overpowering, this one dissipates really quickly and does not linger.

It massages like a dream, absorbs beautifully and works extremely well under my moisturiser in the morning. 

I haven't been able to find out if it is cold-pressed or not, but I suspect not. When I find out I will update the post.

The best Summer Fragrances part 24651 - Aerin Gardenia Rattan

Back at the end of July I was invited to a breakfast with Aerin Lauder. The PR very foolishly bravely kindly sat me next to her - and she was a delight. Completely normal, not stuffy and we discussed amongst other things, the joys of raising boys. Best we leave that conversation there.

The breakfast was to showcase the upcoming launch of both her new fragrances and the *wait for it* body creams to match. My favourite, Gardenia Rattan - I'm nothing if not predictable - now has an accompanying body cream and it is insane. Insane.

A body cream is always a more affordable way of enjoying fragrance if you are watching the pennies. They are nearly always much, much cheaper. This is £40.00 for a whopping 150ml. And if you only ever use it on your upper limbs and decollete as I do it will last you years. 

There are also two new fragrances joining the stable at the same time as the body creams.

Waterlily Sun and Iris Meadow bring the total collection to 7 and launch at the beginning of October in Aerin stockists nationwide.

This is one of those 'had it in mind for ages but never managed to blog about it' posts.

Since I've been doing the skin consultations I've had to wash my hands even more than usual - which can be harsh on them when you're borderline obsessive about it in the first place.

I keep this in my office and reapply about 5 times a day. I don't need to you understand, I want to because I am completely obsessed with it. Completely. Obsessed.

I doubt I'd ever use it on my body, it's honestly never occurred to me. It's mainly about the hands with this one. It's rich but not greasy, it absorbs brilliantly, leaves no residue and the rose scent is very unique. There's no 'old lady' rose going on here, it's elegant and soft. I could not be more in love with this hand cream.

If you're a hand cream addict like me, put it on your Christmas list.

Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia

Last month I was lucky enough to be invited to the British Museum to watch Estee Lauder Companies turn it pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Whilst there I was completely distracted by their lovely PR Georgie who smelled out of this world. I suppose this would be an appropriate forum to apologise for walking up to her and sniffing her like Gomez Addams all evening. *sorry Georgie*

I rarely respond to fragrances this strongly - but I love tuberose - and I adore gardenia - so it was a bit of a a no-brainer really. And I hate to be predictable but it is in a carnation and vanilla bourbon base - also things I am more than happy to cover myself in. It does list neroli and orangeflower extract in the notes - none of which I am happy to report - my nose picks up. I can't bear smelling like fruit - I prefer to eat it.

Following in the tradition of Estee's first Private Collection released in 1973 - Tuberose Gardenia was created by Aerin Lauder for her friends. 

If you like strong florals, gardenia or tuberose you have to try this fragrance. It is divine. It's a heavy enough floral to warrant wearing it throughout the year - not just for summer.

Failing that you could just find an Estee Lauder PR to follow around all day like a sniffer dog.
