12 Days of Giveaways - Day One - Cire Trudon Spiritus Sancti

The first thing that popped into my head when I started thinking about this year's 12 Days was this candle. I am a candle freak - no really - I've got it bad. Especially for Cire Trudon.
Spiritus Sancti is literally as described: 'Holy Spirit'. It smells of Church. Well, Mass, to be precise.

It contains incense, lily of the valley, labdanum and benzoin. It's one of the best candles ever made and it's up for grabs.

Candle of the Week - Cire Trudon Spiritus Sancti

There are few things I love more than a candle. Especially a candle that smells of Church. 

A full-on Orthodox-incense-waving-everywhere Church. The turn of the weather for the worst last weekend saw me packing away my Summer candles and digging out my Autumn/Winter candles. 

Yes I have a candle wardrobe. I know I'm not alone.

Cire Trudon are simply beautiful to-die-for candles. I mean premium, top-of-their-league candles.

These candles don't use any paraffin waxes or any ingredients on the Greenpeace OSPAR list. No heavy metals or pesticides and they have pure cotton wicks. For the record - I don't actually kick up a huge fuss about paraffin wax in my candles - I just don't want it in my moisturiser. 

Spiritus Sancti in a nutshell, reminds me of going to Mass with my extremely Roman Catholic Nana (the lady in the banner at the top of this blog and one of my favourite people on Earth). It's a memory candle for me - and I always equate Church with the colder seasons hence this showing its face now. This contains incense vapours, lily of the valley, labdanum and benzoin. 

It's essentially pure incense. It couldn't smell more Church-like if you stole the thurible and popped it on a stand in your fireplace.

It is to me, a signal to the start of the school year, the nights closing in, packing away summer clothes and the return of Downton (Mr Bates!). God I love Autumn.

Cire Trudon fragranced candles retail for around £60.00 - bear in mind they are significantly larger than a standard candle, burn evenly and last for around 80 hours.

A fragrant arrival in Chiltern Street - Cire Trudon Boutique Opening *picture heavy post*

This week I was invited to the opening of the divine new Cire Trudon boutique in Chiltern Street.

Cire Trudon is the oldest candle maker in the world, founded in 1643 and this is their first stand-alone outlet outside of France. Claude Trudon originally opened his store on Rue Saint-Honore and sold not only groceries to the locals, but candles for dinner parties and alter candles to the nearby Saint Roch parish. The family would go on - in much a similar way to the Guerlain dynasty - to have a long standing relationship with French royalty and dignitaries, including the Royal Court of Versailles and Louis XIV.

Cire Trudon candles are more importantly, made from vegetal wax, use cotton wicks and are completely biodegradable - meaning they burn clear and are better for you - and your wallpaper..

The salon itself has kept the tradition of Maison de Trudon and encapsulates 'old world French' perfectly.  The floors are reclaimed wood, the wallpaper is antique and the space is covered with mirrors making it a definite 'destination' spot.

Cire Trudon carries the entire collection - including scented candles, grand bougies, scented pillar candles, 'buste' candles, room sprays and wait for it - perfumed 'stink bombs' and is at 36 Chiltern Street, W1 and absolutely worth a visit. Beautiful.
