This is easily the most recommended product from the last 3 months or so of skin consultations. Like my most favourite discoveries, I came across it almost by accident - and what a find.
This is incredibly lightweight, super-absorbing and non-tacky. It feels like an oil on first touch, then acts like a serum. Good for literally all skin types and also good as a first attempt for those that are afraid of oil/serums and always expect them to leave you greasy.
Inci: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Camelina Sativa Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Phaeodactylum Tricornotum Extract, Bisabolol, Parfum (Fragrance), Linalool, Limonene, Tocopherol
It smells divine - similar to a light citrus - not at all overpowering.
Heavy in Omegas, this will help to strengthen the lipid barrier and replenish the moisture levels, meaning it would work in hot or cold climates and on dry or oily skins. There is nothing here that will block pores on acne sufferers.
There are many serums on the market with similar ingredients for a much higher price tag. This is £23.00.
Highly recommended.
Looks good especially as I have oily-combo skin. As for the body shop vit e. serum-in-oil, would you say either of these helped lighten spot scarring? P.s. YAY YOU BLOGGED!

This baby is currently sitting in my shopping cart! Thanks for the recommendation, Mrs. H!
ReplyDeleteGood to have you back!! Better than ANR in your opinion? Added it to my purchase list along with the body shop one x
ReplyDeleteCaroline, welcome back; like so many others, I'm sorry for your loss. x
ReplyDeleteStupid question: would I use this as a serum? That is, after cleansing and toning, before moisturiser? Or would it replace serum and moisturiser? Advice welcome, please! Alison
Gud to see your regular post...is it something similar to clarins lotus oil?
ReplyDeletehttp://sarazbeautytonic.blogspot.co.uk/
Would this be good for putting on in the morning under moisturiser or is it more of a night treatment?
ReplyDeleteYou can use it either in the mourning or at night, or both. I personally use it in the morning and it`s been working great for me so far.
DeleteSo glad you posted. Was having withdrawals and re-reading old posts to get me through! :-D
ReplyDeleteQuick question if you have time-I've been getting a reoccuring under the skin spot sort of at the base of my cheek bone, underneath where my blusher goes. Cannot figure out whats causing it for the life of me! It never gets a head. Sometimes goes away then reappears soon after. Also had a cluster of similar spots near it, some of which had slight heads...which i squuezed....and now have blemishes... :-/ . Not happening on the other side of my face at all. Its not the side i use my phone, though is the side my hair falls on. Is there a product you would recommend for this type of spot? Current skincare-Bioderma to remove makeup, Algenist rejuvenating cleanser, pixi glow tonic, Serozinc, Ren Day Cream, Hydraluron under Ren some days. Origins Hydrating overnight mask once or twice a week. Skin type -Combination/Normal, probably dehydrated. 28 years old. Dont smoke, dont drink very often.
Google milia to see if it's that - if so check out Caroline's cheat sheet
DeleteNope definitely not Milia.
DeleteTry Avene Diacneal, they are probably clogged pores from makeup. I used to get these skin coloured bumps on my cheeks (from using blusher) and Diacneal got rid of them.
DeleteI'm in the market for an oil in my routine I am currently debating between this and the Clarins Lotus Oil. For reference my skin is combination/oily and I have some stubborn blemishes. Which would you recommend more?
ReplyDeleteI love this stuff so much. It makes my skin feel amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteGood to see you back. Hope you and the family are doing OK x
ReplyDeleteI will try:)
ReplyDeleteYay so happy to see a post! This sounds great and with my combination/ spot prone skin I was looking for an oil/ serum type product! How does this compare to the new body shop serum&oil please and which would be better for my skin type? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh also sorry I forgot- for hydraluron users, what would you recommend with this product, would you integrate this in the routine or would you cleanse, tone, then just use this product like an oil? thanks!
ReplyDeletehi Caroline. thanks and great to have you back and i'm so sorry about your granny :(
ReplyDeleteHow different is this to the Frankincense night time serum? I have a tester of that and am enjoying it. My skin is very dehydrated. Just wondering which serum would be better in combatting that...
I really NEED a serum!

Would I need to use a moisturizer with this or just cleanse, tone, spray hydrate, eye cream and then serum and finish at that?
ReplyDeleteI've been scared to use proper oils on my skin, mainly because the ones that I tried previously just didn't really absorb into my skin and just left an oily residue on my face. But this one sounds perfect and surprisingly affordable :). Will definitely consider giving it a go! x.
ReplyDeleteLoving the sound of this for my dehydrated-acne prone skin. I have to be so careful what I use because my skin is extremely dehydrated, but breaks out at the slightest thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd welcome back to the blogging world!

I have exactly this kind of skin. Hard work isn't it? I wrote about it on my blog as I'm on a quest to get the industry to understand and cater better for blemish prone skin caused by hormones (as opposed to being caused by naturally oily skin) and have found Caroline to be one of the few skincare experts online who recognises that skin isn't just one thing. I often find combo formulations too light, so face oils and layering are really good as well as cream and balm cleaners of course.
DeleteAhhhh caroline you skincare genius! ATM I have been loving the clinque take the day away balm (heck of a long name) and need a new cleanser under £20 any suggestions? Also is the cetaphil one any good, have heard a couple of good things about it (but then they are people who cleanse with wipes, yuck) many thanks hope you can reply xxx have a lovely day

ReplyDeleteSuch a shame that so many companies add fragrance to products
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recommendation, Caroline! Sounds great. On another note, I've been using Emma Hardie rejuvenating night cream and every time I use it it feels like my skin peels when I put it on, I seem to end up with a lot of little rolls of skin under my finger tips. That's weird, isn't it? I had the same thing happen to me with Clarins Beauty Flash balm. I will add that I use Alpha H liquid gold, so I think I'm pretty much on top of my exfoliation. I am just so puzzled by the skin peeling thing, surely this is not meant to happen after using a night cream? Does it mean that the cream does not agree with my skin? Thank you Caroline!
ReplyDeleteHi sorry to butt in ! It sounds like some silicones in the cream are jarring with silicones in/or another product you're using. Try switching up your serum/whatever you're putting underneath the moisturiser and see if that helps x
DeleteHi, you didn't say how you were using the liquid gold, just wanted to let you know you can use it 2-3 times per week max and not everyday and certainly not 2x daily. It's super strong
DeleteThank you so much for replying. Coincidentally, I skipped the night serum last night as was very tired and definitely there was no peeling. The serum I'm using is Estée Lauder night serum, the old formula. I will try using the night cream with another serum. Thank you again, your comments have been very helpful.
DeleteExciting, in the past I haven't been that impressed by Ren
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, you were missed! Checked every day to see if you were back!
ReplyDeleteI am using Clarins Blue Orchid Oil and pleased with the results - would you recommend the Ren above the Clarins? It is much cheaper....
I went to the REN counter in John Lewis to buy some of this after your recommendation but was told it was being discontinud....do you know if this is definitely the case? X
ReplyDeletethe old one is being discontinued and the one caroline has up is the new one! i've been doing some research on it and they have apparently changed the name for this product a few times
DeleteI absolutely love this stuff, been using it for the past few months, and has done wonders for my dehydrated skin this winter. I think REN is so underrated, great products and reasonably priced. If this really is being discontinued, I will definitely have to hoard!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not being discontinued. It's replaced the Night Serum.
ReplyDeleteI got this straight away after a consultation with you and love it! Was a life saver for my skin when I was away skiing (and eating too much sugar and cheese...!!). I have acne prone skin and have had no problem with it.
ReplyDeleteI really want to buy this :)!

I bought this after we chatted before Christmas in the Northcote Road SpaceNK and I just love it! Thank you so much for all your help and advice that day - made such a difference to my skin.

Hey Caroline ! Love your blog .. Get so know information from it . I gave a quick question I am expecting and during the pregnancy I am getting freckle like dark spot on my nose . It's not very visible yet but it's there . Can you please recommend any brightening serum that I can use to prevent it . Thanks
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that acne may be connected with a change of the place of residence? I've heard that it may be because of different water, is that possible or is that just a myth? I'm 24, I came to England 3 months ago and since then my chin is coverd with acne(I never had acne before in my life). Will my skin get used to it over time?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Monika
Hey there Mrs. Caroline, quick off subject question for you if you don't mind, yes or no reply will do really. I need to know if I should press my spray toner into my skin or just let it do its thing for a minute? I am not sure if I am wasting my spray toner by pressing it into the skin and really removing the toner with my hands?? I cannot find that little gem of info on your blog, anyone know by chance?? Thanks a bunch:)
ReplyDeleteYEAAAH, you posted!!! Wow, I've really missed your posts, Caroline!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an interesting product, and I was also wondering how does it compare to oils like the Clarins lotus one (which I've been addicted to for more than 20 years...).
i absolutely love REN, they always seem to fix every problem i have, i wish people knew more about how fantastic a brand they are!
ReplyDeletecould this product be used if you're prone to breakouts? I'm just getting into oils and am sampling the Clarin Lotus oil but if this is ok with blemish prone skin i may give this one a go. For example every time i use a balm cleanser i break out quite badly and when i stop using it my skin goes back to normal.
thanks!

Having suffered persistent adult acne it is interesting that you are recommending this for acne sufferers as I thought wheatgerm oil was highly comedogenic and I have always avoided it in the past.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the same so I'm kind of reluctant to try!
DeleteHi Caroline, just a quick question, unfortunately not related to this post but I'm eager to get cracking with niacinamide- purchased powder online, but now that I have it, I see a lot of different suggestions on how to use it online. I figured I would rather hear a recipe fr1om you than anyone else, so if you have the time to suggest how exactly to use this powder properly, I would be very grateful
ReplyDeleteSorry to add this to the previous post, Caroline, but I'm just wondering if I can add the appropriate amount of powder into the toner I already use- 50% apple cider vinegar, 50% water in a dark glass spray bottle?
ReplyDeleteQuick question for Caroline &/or fellow readers!
ReplyDeleteI just changed jobs and my new duties include going into a clean room when people need me to (not everyday, but 2 - 5 times per week). This means I have to remove all makeup prior to entering the clean room. Any recommendations for quick (< 2 minutes?), non-messy, non-fussy makeup removal methods that won't damage my skin?
Bioderma or any other micellar waters would be good, just on a cotton pad and sweep it all over. The best way though, if you have access to a sink is to use a creamy cleanser, massage it in and give it a good rinse (though a flannel would be ideal). If these are still too much faff, then maybe Caroline would allow makeup wipes? Just for this though ;)
DeleteI tested this one although the former version (the one that smelled like fish) but I prefer the line you've recommended a few months ago : BALMOLOGY, all natural ingredients. They have a rose serum full of omega 3 that is a killer ;)
ReplyDeleteis the wheatgerm oil not comedogenic?
ReplyDeleteNo it's a good formulation. Haven't had bad feedback yet. X
Deletewheatgerm is actually considered one of the most comedogenic oils, it's perfect for drier skin types, dreadful for acne-prone. Clogs my pores like it's going out of style. As if that weren't enough, it also contains triglycerides - also very clogging ingredients. In lab test these scored 3-5 (0-1 being least likely to clog pores, 3 being very likely). It's different for everyone but it can take weeks before you would notice the clogs forming.
DeleteCheers,
S. N.
I Love his oil/serum. I have really dry skin, I get spots easily and suffer from redness. I think this is an amazing product. I´m on my second tube and I haven´t experienced any spots due to this product. I use it together with the V-Cense Revitalising Night Cream and kiehls overnight eyecream - a perfect match.
ReplyDeleteMy skin always has bad reactions to this product. Maybe I am allergic to some essential oil, I have no idea... but my face become red after usal.
ReplyDeleteI thought fragrance in skincare was irritating for skin?
ReplyDeleteI find it highly irritating, I suppose it depends on your skintype and sensitivities. I can't use anything with natural (essential oils) nor chemical fragrance ingredients. I avoid them all due to the damage they can cause to skin.
DeleteMust try this, just about the write a piece on modern, serum type oils, have come on so much I think. Really loving the NUDE progenius at the moment. x
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteMy skin has been breaking out recently and the acne leave behind marks. I'm confused between Ren Clear Calm mask, Ren Glycolactic Peel mask or Alpha H Liquid Gold as I need something stop the acne as well as work on the scars and marks. Which one would you recommend? Do you think Clarins lotus oil would help since I have combination skin? Please do let me know. Thanks.
Would this replace your face oil or would you still pop a face oil (at night) on after too?
ReplyDeleteThis product sounds great, thank you for the recommendation
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog (thanks to a K.J. Bennett's recent post). It's such a great surprize, so much useful no noncsense info here. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity I haven't discovered the blog earlier, when still in London, and stocked up on theskin routine goodies recommended..now, as I live in the country where there aren't so many of the good brands, I'd love to hear your opninion on the Medik8 products, as these seem to also have some thorough research behind their products according to what they claim. (It's a British brand, but present in Romania, where I'm currently based). Are they really efficient? Or would it be more worth to order online from REN?
Any thoughts on how this compares with Avene's thermal spring water serum? I haven't tried either, but I'd like to get one. Just don't know which would be better.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Does anyone know how this serum compares to Avene's Themal Spring Water Soothing Serum? I have heard good things about both and want to try one. Can't decide which one to buy.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Dear Caroline, should <i you this serum under moisturizer ?
