Well SPF is done, retinols are next up, and after that I'm going back to budget basics. I find this a bit rough in texture and worry it's too abrasive for my skin having used a flannel to cleanse before...maybe im just paranoid, its not like i have sensitive skin.

ReplyDeleteGood budget range NSpa at asda - gel to oil cleaner, acid exfoliator and facial oil are my picks.
Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Extreme Night Pads (more mid range than budget) contain Glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids and have been fantastic for my acne prone scarred skin. Works out reasonably as only need to use a couple of times a week and sometimes on offer at boots.
Thanks for mentioning these Nip fab pads and your experience using them. I've just ordered some to try, they are on offer in Superdrug - night pads are £7.45 and the regular ones are £6.45, just under half price!

DeleteBoth the new Clearasil pads and the nip+Fab pads contain a high amount of alcohol denat (second ingredient in the list!) so I would steer clear.
DeleteThe Nip + Fab are great, alcohol is lower down on the list. I used to work for Bare Minerals and used the Glow Pads which I loved but alcohol is first ingredient just like my holy grail Alpha H Liquid Gold. So its nice to have a cheaper yet effective option! I'm not a fan of the Zelens or Pixi Glow Tonic - too gentle for my skin.

I now use glycolic pads each morning but I keep a tub of these on hand for any break outs, and if it's just one or two spots then I cut the pads in half to be even more frugal!! I am sending this post to my daughter too.

ReplyDeleteI purchased a tub of these after you first recommended them, and, unfortunately, I found them too drying. I realized that it must be the high alcohol content that was causing my face to feel so dry. I was wondering if maybe the ingredients list is slightly different in the U.K. than it is here in the States, as I know you don't love high alcohol content either. Ethanol alcohol is the second ingredient on my tub.

DeleteThe 'Back Spray' from the Boots which contains Salicylic acid from their tea tree and witch hazel range has been really great for clearing up my back occasionally.

ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend is Japanese and we shop at the Japanese drug stores a lot in LA. They have a product called "HadaLabo Gyokujyun Lotion Moist" that is absolutely amazing!! It's some kind of toner/serum hybrid and it saved my skin from the drought we've been having. Best part: it was only $8. If you can find it in England, i think it's worth looking into. DeleteYou must try their Tamagohada cleanser. It foaming sadly, but sls/sles free and had both bha and aha.
I have the tamagohada cleanser (it means egg skin, according to the BF) in the pump bottle and the tube! It's so gentle, I love it so much! I've never had a hadalabo product that failed to impress, actually.

There's a 2 for 1 deal on selected skincare at Boots at the moment and I managed to pick up four things for less than a tenner. Haven't used any of them yet but might be worth looking into

DeleteAldi Lacura Multi intensive Aqua serum is my desert island product. I've been using it for about 4 years and I can't live without it, I might even prefer it more than Hydraluron *hides behind hands* even though hydraluron is great. If you are near any Indian shops Himalaya Herbals is amazing, I use the nourishing skin cream, which can be used all over but I use it on my face which is oily and dehydrated and it's incredible, especially as a make up base. http://www.himalayawellness.com/products/personalcare/nourishing-skin-cream.htm The clarifying mud mask is also incredible, my skin literally glows after.

ReplyDeleteI am literally finishing TOMORROW a pot of Vichy LiftActiv Night Complete Anti-Wrinkle & Firming Care and highly recommend. I like some Vichy, but always have to keep my eyes opened as they like to put a lot of silicone in some products (I don't mind A BIT of silicone, but not loads, and definitely not in eye creams, for instance). This night cream, however, is lovely, doesn't have anything too nasty, feels great on skin and lasts for bloody forever. For just over £20 (plus Boots points lol) I think it's quite a good budget option :)

ReplyDeleteI'm fond of the Melting Cleansing gel from NSpa at Asda, which is cheap as chips and very gentle. I like a lot of their range, actually - their 5 minute magic mask is nice, too. And I love the Garnier Micellar water, it does a good job of getting off makeup and surface crud. I've also tried the St Moritz fake tan and that's as good as any.

I tried these pads before (I'm pretty sure it was these) and had to stop as I developed dry patches, especially around my mouth and chin. Most likely the alcohol.....
