So I was sent this recently - along with a lovely bag of other bits from Dr Gross (thanks Meg in SoCal) and low and behold I have a new favourite eye cream.
What is it?
'A firming and hydrating treatment formulated with anti-aging Ferulic + Retinol and an ECG Complex™ to treat the entire eye area, including bunny lines, crow’s feet, and the 11's.'
Who is it for?
It says all skins/ages but you don't need this if you're the younger side of your 20's. In my opinion...
What’s in it?
water/aqua/eau,
isododecane, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone, butylene glycol, adipic
acid/neopentyl glycol crosspolymer, lauryl dimethicone, potassium cetyl
phosphate, polymethyl methacrylate, sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl
taurate copolymer, glyceryl stearate se, glyceryl behenate, ceteareth-20,
collagen amino acids, ferulic acid, gallic acid, ellagic acid, arnica montana
flower extract, centella asiatica extract, retinol, aminobutyric acid,
caffeine, euphrasia officinalis extract, sphingolipids, phospholipids,
tetrapeptide-21, glycine soja (soybean) oil, macrocystis pyrifera (kelp)
extract, sodium pca, sodium hyaluronate, saccharide isomerate, salix alba
(willow) bark extract, tocopherol, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract,
helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, glycolic acid, lactic acid, glycerin,
acrylates/carbamate copolymer, bis-vinyl dimethicone/dimethicone copolymer,
tetrahydropiperine, bht, hexylene glycol, caprylyl glycol, hydrogenated
polyisobutene, isohexadecane, benzophenone-3, polysorbate 80, citric acid,
cyclodextrin, sodium citrate, tetrasodium edta, phenoxyethanol, potassium
sorbate, sodium benzoate, mica (ci 77019), annatto (ci 75120)
Possibly
acne/allergy/troubling for some ingredients?
a wealth of acids - pretty much all of them - so read the inci list carefully before you buy
Natural? Organic? Man
made? Vegan?
Cruelty-free/vegan
Tested on
animals/sold in China?
No/unsure but I don't think so - they have the right cruelty-free symbols on their website
What's not in it?
Fragrance! When I had my reaction recently this was surprisingly gentle on my eyes - given the high content of actives I was pleasantly surprised.
How do you use it?
As with all eye creams - apply a little 'pine nut' or two - see yesterday's post - across the top of your fingers and go outwards from the bridge of the nose under the eye, and from the inner eye -> out over the brow bone.
What’s good about it?
This had an immediate effect on my eyes. They were taughter, brighter and more defined. I think it also did a little for my dark circles which if you know me, is a miracle in itself. The ferulic acid is used to facilitate the retinol penetrating as deeply as possible (without a needle) whilst also acting as a massive antioxidant. That, along with all the acids, including glycol and lactic, make for a gorgeous formula that I don't see myself moving on from in a hurry.
What’s not so good
about it?
My only complaint about this is the jar packaging. It contains a lot of good active ingredients, and while the preservative system is top-notch, eye creams generally last a long time and this will be exposed to a lot of air and bacteria over that time. That being said, it would not stop me buying it, so good are the results. I'd probably end up using more of it on a daily basis, which if you think about it, is a cunning plan on their part.
Where to use in your
routine?
After toning, before serums, morning and evening.

ReplyDeleteOmg, it's not prescription strength. .. They discussed it so many times. ....
DeleteChill out. She might have missed it! ;-)

DeleteEven though the first comment was a little blunt.. she has discussed this quite a few times. Maybe you haven't come across her youtube channel? But no.. it's not prescription strength so you should be fine. Caroline does say if you feel nervous about it simply don't use it. Hope it helps :)
DeleteI was all excited (Ferulic? Retinol? Yes, please!!) until you said "lactic". It's the one acid I can't get my face to like. One use of a product that contains it and my face feels raw for days. *sad face*
ReplyDeleteI hate when amazing products are limited to one store! Especially when it's spaceNK- I end up buying everything!
ReplyDeleteIt's available online from Cult Beauty for £56
DeleteA little out of my price range unfortunately! I've been looking at the Origins ones recently, any thoughts on those? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the 11's?!
ReplyDeleteThose two vertical lines between some people's eyebrows.
DeleteTwo vertical lines between the eyebrows - basically frown lines
DeleteI purchased this online two weeks ago from Cult Beauty for £56. I've only just started using it so it's too soon to tell, but the free Cleansing Bar and Peel Pads were very nice.
ReplyDeleteYou can get it on Dermstore.com: http://www.dermstore.com/product_Ferulic+Plus+Retinol+Eye+Cream_60619.htm
ReplyDeleteThe jar packaging is such a non-starter for me these days. Makes my skin crawl to dip my fingers into a pot, and a hassle to try to find spatulas.
Haahaha, me too. Pumps PUMPS PUMPS WE WANT PUMPS!!!!
DeleteI think I'm gonna get the serum version of this with the pump and just use my face cream on top of it if I feel like I need it :)
Hi Caroline!
ReplyDeletewould you be able to do a video or blog post about must have products or things to know in your 20s.
Maybe one that strikes a balance between necessary spending and affordable products like in your 'Where should I spend my money in my routine' post
:)
Hi, Caroline! I have one small question. Is it OK to layer Hydraluron, Pepta-Bright and Paula's Choice Retinol 1% and now this eye cream all at the same time? And on alternate days Liquid Gold? Or will it be too much? Btw, I am 52..... (and trying to stay fabulous) Greetings from Sweden!!!!! And txs!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would like an answer to this too if anyone can help!

DeleteHi Caroline, how would this compare to Dennis Gross ferulic and retinol triple correction eye serum? better, worse/equally good? thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline, I need this! can't get it where I live though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wanted to let you know that I mentioned you, and linked to your blog in my last blog post today. I hope it's fine with you since what I said was all about admiration and respect, referring people to the expert when in doubt! Tagged you on the instagram picture so you can find it easily. Thanks!
Alina
i'm 25 but i'm really want to start preventing any sign of ageing that I could possibly get in few years... would this help me? would this help prevent or it just helps with actual sings of ageing? x
ReplyDeleteIn my view you are too young. Go for HealGel Eyes or Sunday Riley
DeleteThis sounds like a hit for sure. I'll look for it in the states!
ReplyDeleteGahh. This sounds like exactly what I need*looking sadly at wallet*. Caroline! Your blog makes me happy, but my bank balance is suffering!LOL.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about Alpha-H eye complex? What age range would you put it for? Is it good for 40's?
ReplyDeleteI would love to know Caroline's thoughts on this too. I like it for mornings as it is so light and good for de-puffing.
DeleteI have this aswell! If it helps, I'd say if you enjoy using it and the results you get from it, then great! But if you're looking for something to treat wrinkles this isn't going to cut it. I would say 35+ you want something with a bit of a kick in it
DeleteWow - such a long ingredient list! After reading that anyone over 40 should be using retinol "or their face will fall off" I bought skinceuticals 1.0%. Depending on how I get on with that ( which apparently can go under the eyes) I may have to invest in this for once a day use. Is it quite light in texture?
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline, thank you for this post. I am in need of a new eye cream, having come nearly to the end of my Eve Lom cream which is nice and moisturising but doesn't seem to do anything else. I might just have to try this next. It sounds great. But I agree, would definitely prefer it to be in a pump dispenser - I hate having to use a spatula or dip my paws in to the pot, it goes under your nails when trying to get to the bottom of the jar urrgh!
ReplyDeleteCaroline! Maybe you already know this, so I am sorry if I am being redundant, but thought I'd leave a comment just in case. This line also has the serum version of this cream, and it comes WITH A PUMP :D The texture is different though, it looks like a clear orangey gel, but many of the active ingredients are the same. I have been testing it the past week (I requested a sample on my last visit to Sephora and they gave me a pretty generous amount :) and it appears to be hydrating enough for my currently dry skin all on its own, which I am thrilled about!
ReplyDeleteCaroline, unless I'm VERY mistaken, I think I've heard/read you say that you take everything right up to the eye/orbital, including serums. I've been taking my serums up around my eyes as well, and putting on my eye cream after that. Is this wrong?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember in which post it is written, but Ms. Hirons recommends you use your eye cream first and the your serums.... Hope this helps!
DeleteYes, I read that. But elsewhere she says she takes her serums up to and around the eye. Surely serum before eye cream. So...which should we do?
DeleteI would go by texture. Thinnest product (usually serum) first all over face or on areas of concern, then face/ eye creams. Then spf.
DeleteZah, that was the approach I'd been taking as well.
DeleteI think I remember Caroline saying that the only time it really matters is if your serum has silicones in it - in that case eye cream first (I think !)
DeleteHi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI have just snagged myself a tester of the Dr Brant Ferr and Retinol moisturiser - love it! Might have to purchase this eye cream after I've sold a kidney for the moisturiser too... Who needs kidneys, really...
Hi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI’m a nurse so I can usually be stuck inside a lot, I haven’t been taking care of my skin - wipes and boots simply sensitive moisturiser *im so sorry*.
But, I discovered your blog this weekend and pretty much spent all of my easter day-off realising that I need to do some serious apologising to my face. I have learnt a lot (pores aren't doors, acid for face, wipes for bums) and read your special sheet for nurses *you are an angel*
I just wanted to ask your opinion on this routine before I splurge on all of it at once. I’m still a student nurse so money is pretty tight, but I will definitely make improvements where needed.
About My Skin:
Age -24
Spots - Yes, annoying but not acne - maybe hormonal
Skin Type - Oily (I think I am one of the true oily ones, i get it from my grandad)
The new Routine:
Morning
Cleanse - Clinique TTDO
Acid - Pixi
Spritz - Serozinc ** 2 for £10 at Escentuals.com FYI ;) **
Serum -
Moisturiser - HELP -
Evening
Pre Cleanse - Superfcialist Vit-C Oil (better choice?)
Skin Cleanse - Clinique TTDO
Acid- Pixi (will upgrade to clinique mild clarifying eventually)
Spritz - Serozinc
Eye Cream - will upgrade to eyselix/khiels avocado (for now No7)
Serum - HELP
Oil/Moisturiser -HELP
Will start Alpha H eventually
I think I really need help with the AM/PM moisturiser/oil and serum, I don’t think I can stretch to the Kate Somerville.
Thank you so much if you have the time to read this, if you don’t does anyone else have an ideas for some oily (young, but a bit tired) skin.
Hi, not Caroline obv, but she did a post a few years back on the Elemis freshskin line that's aimed at teens and 20-somethings, and I know you can buy it in Superdrug (who I think have a points promotion on now?). That might be a good place to start for moisturisers and serum. The post is here:

Sunday Riley Start Over is the best eye cream I've tried in a LONG time and am considering a repurchase, but maybe I'll give this a go first. Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteNic x
damn it , why eye creams are so expensive ?? any recommendation for affordable effective eye cream .i'm in my late 20's and in need for gooood eye cream that provide moisture and brightness :/
ReplyDeleteQuestion. I just bought the eye serum version of this and am so excited to try it. I've also bought the face serum under the name name. I was wondering if I'm paring that serum with Estée Lauder advanced night repair. In what order after toning should I follow. Also would these serums be okay to use after the alpha beta peel pads? Thank you for all of your amazing reccomendarions.
