ReplyDeleteI'm really embarrassed as a reader of your blog that you and Cult Beauty have had so much grief about this. When has a product going out of stock ever been justification for such abuse and grumpiness?
Anyone who has complained should be ashamed of themselves; it's always been perfectly clear that being on the wait list doesn't guarantee a box, and that there was going to be a limited number.
As someone with a great deal of respect for what you do on here (and as someone who wasn't lucky enough to get a box first time round, but fingers crossed for tomorrow!), I'd like to say thank you on behalf of everyone for all of the hard work you put into pulling Box 3 together. You were (hopefully still are!) clearly so proud of it, and I hope the nastiness of the few hadn't ruined it and put you off making another in the future.

ReplyDeleteSecondly, as someone who did not sign up for the box or intended to buy it (though I was obviously tempted) but followed the poop storm this week with growing incredulity, I bow down to you, Caroline and the Cult Beauty team. You, Ms Hirons, have the patience of a mum of four, no doubt hard-earned. I, for one, would not have tried to satisfy disgruntled customers who were behaving like my best friend's toddler after he is denied an expensive toy. You're classier than I am. I understand disappointment, I do not understand grown women acting like this.
Love your blog, it has turned my skin around. I cannot tell you how much that meant to me after 15 years of struggle (still nothing compared to people who have serious, existential problems, it's important to remember I think). And all the advice was free. I honestly love you for it and felt like maybe you might want to hear it after this week.

DeleteHi Caroline , firstly thank you for all your amazing advice and tips, secondly thanks for keeping it real. I think the box looks fabulous but can't justify the amount at this time of year.... I can't believe some people are responding the way they are....get a life folks! I wonder if you have ever thought of doing a cheaper box maybe with sample sizes so people can try some of the amazing products then decide if they want to splurge on a full size one ? I would love to try some of the stuff but would be scared it wouldn't be suitable or I wouldn't like it . Hope you have a fab weekend look forward to more posts and vlogs !

Look I get it, life sucks for ALL us sometimes (regardless of age, gender, status). And maybe you wanted to treat yourself. And god knows I hate missing out on a good deal (it's against my religion to pay for anything full price).
But it's luxury skincare items. (LUXURY. SKINCARE. ITEMS.) Not you know, food on the table for a month. Or medication for your kids. Where I'm at (an European country mind, not 3rd world country) the price of the box is someone's salary for a month. Pension. One time financial aid for people in dire straits is lower than that. So people? Check your privilege (and I mean this in the nicest way possible). You have it better than a lot (A LOT) of people. Be grateful. Isn't that what the holidays are about?
If that wasn't bad enough, the bitching and insults and whatever thrown at the lady who has been giving us great advice all these years for free (FOR FREE!) - for shame. Truly for shame. I'm facepalming myself at the level of for shame here. And from grown ass women too.

My thoughts exactly! IMHO if someone has £200 going spare, I'm sure they could manage an order with Space NK, Selfridge's or whatever. I don't, but I'm very happy with my skin from the advice I've had on here, and some judicious purchases from qvc, Boots, M&S etc.

1st,Great email. 2nd, honestly thank you for taking the time to try to appease people who didn't get the box but lastly, people need to get a life. I missed out on the box (having slept in. US time) and the extent of my reaction was... hmm not cool (in reaction to not getting it and sleeping through it). About 30 seconds later you move on. I understand wanting something but if people really really wanted any one of these products then they could easily buy them elsewhere. As far as you and the cult team you seem exasperated and you really shouldnt beat yourself up about it. Know that in reality this is a ridiculous thing to be upset about and that the people making the most noise are probably the least you'd like to sit down and have a glass of wine with. Oh and the conversation would be atrocious. My 2 cents....back to my nostalgia marathon of x-files. Enjoy the weekend!!!!

So kind of you Caroline, Alexia and Cult Beauty team to scramble so hard to accomodate those that missed out when in reality it was out of your control once the emails left the server. It is not up to you to mollify those that either signed up incorrectly (for whatever reason), didn't manage their Inboxes and junk mail properly, or waited too long for click the link (it's Christmas season!) or who didn't take in account time zones. Personally, I am beyond grateful these boxes are even open for shipping internationally, they could easily be restricted to UK only, I hope this experience has not soured Cult Beauty and yourself to future boxes, they are simply wonderful. ReplyDeleteHI Caroline! Long time reader, first time commenting - first of all, thank you again to you and to Cult Beauty for creating this amazing concept. I got the second box and am still thoroughly enjoying every single product. I did manage to get the third box and am really looking forward to receiving it. It really pains me that you felt you had to firstly, write this post, and secondly, scramble with Cult Beauty to get more boxes, because of people's wonky sense of entitlement. I mean - if one (me including) can afford to drop 195 quid on luxury skincare, it probably means that one most likely can afford all of these products without the discount in the first place. With all that is going on in the world right now - shootings, bombings, wars and the never-ending cycle of hunger, poverty, domestic violence etc - being abusive and acting like giant babies on social media because of a luxury skincare box, and this happening so close to the holidays, just makes me wonder whether we have completely lost all perspective on what this season is all about.

What a great thing you and the peeps at Cult Beauty are attempting! I would love it if it works out for me, as I missed out first round. I was super disappointed but now am hopeful for another chance. Not being tied to social media, I've missed the resulting fracas, so I can only hope that moving forward people will be more considerate. Maybe next time there could be a pre-pay order opportunity? Or announce how many are available in total upfront?

I always look forward to the comments because they are funny, supportive, and I just really like reading about everyone's excitement about lots of things. In addition to feeling bad for Caroline and Cult Beauty re Box-Gate, I feel bad for those who did get a box and can't feel that they can share their excitement. I just wanted to say - I missed out - but I had saved up so I had the cash. I donated the full amount to my local Simon community (homeless shelter) specifically asking that the money get spent on women and children for the Christmas season. DeleteFirst of all, thank you Caroline, Cult Beauty, and the brands involved for allowing a second opportunity to obtain a box. I was working when the original email came out last week, but I managed to pre-order one today. I'm looking forward to receiving it! Also, something I didn't realize beforehand: The 195 pound price includes UK sales tax, which is clearly stated in a red box on the box's page. If you're outside the EU, the tax is deducted from the grand total. Since I live in the United States, the total amounted to 162.50 pounds after tax deduction. I know that cost can still be a deterrent and the USD-GBP exchange rate is not in an American's favor, but I hope this can be informative for some outside the EU!

ReplyDeletewow... i hope people realize how lovely you are being ... especially considering those who were complete asshats towards you/cult in their comments. yes, i was lucky enough to get a box first go 'round (alberta time zone worked in my favour??), but it really shocked me to see some of the comments. considering all you do for your readers/followers, you didn't deserve any of that negativity!! i just feel that needed to be said!
ReplyDeleteI really really wanted to place an order. Email came fine and I had my US credit card issued by a credit union in my hands, same credit card I placed previous box order. I've tried 3 ~4 times but it kept failing at this 3D authorization. Looks like CB might have integrated a new sort of security feature for US credit card purchase? I am not sure where the issue stands but my credit card was unable to go thru this 3D authorization. Is it my card? my browser?? I don't know but instead of me going mad, I decided to let my box go to fellow ladies and wait for the future box. So Ms. Hirons please keep the box coming next season!

Since I had two addresses on the list (since I don't trust my main email provider for timely messages; I didn't try to order a second one) I can confirm that there are boxes left. It's wonderful how helpful and calm you and Cult Beauty have been over this. Anyone with a problem should contact them ASAP -- if necessary create a new email address and reference the one on the list if you're having serious email trouble. Their service is fantastic.

DeleteI think Poirot's a good choice--I have been a fan of Agatha Christie for over twenty years. I want to thank you for your great advice through your blog and youtube channel. I have been reading/watching since Feb 2015, and I have had a change in my skin. Since then, I have been able to help my sister and her pre-teen daughter using your advice (All different skin types). Her friends have seen changes and have been asking her what she has been doing. So we are spreading the word over here in our corner of the US. On another note, I was able to get this fabulous box the first time round, mostly due to a lucky early awakening. I will share some of the products with the above mentioned sister when I meet up with her this Christmas. Thank you and Cult Beauty for your extraordinary collaboration efforts and have a good Christmas and New Year.

I was disappointed not to get a box last week - mainly because I'd been saving up for a box, and the timing after my exams (mature student) would have been perfect. However, I will now get it in Feb - which is probably even better as I shall be in the midst of dissertation writing and trying to coordinate family and life and in need of pick me up. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteOMG the doorbell just rang and a delivery man left a Cult Beauty Box 3. I'm in shock. I signed up for the waiting list but decided it was too expensive. So my wonderful bf secretly ordered one, despite having to pay even more in euros (we live in France). How did he manage that? He knows I'm obsessed with your recommendations and even watches your vlogs with me. This is the best Christmas present I have ever had, and I'm keeping it until Christmas Day. After a year of skin problems and ill health this is going to be such a tonic and lift for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Sorry to ramble, over excitement.
