The box is looking goooood ! Having learned how to double cleanse by you I must say that is the #1 best advice ever, that and to acid tone !
ReplyDeleteThanks Caroline, sometimes we need something as simple as that to find out, much to our embarrassment, we've been doing it wrong! That's why we love you! p.s. still waiting for the Drunk Elephant critique.
ReplyDeleteReally helpful advice and simple demonstration. Think we all overanalyse stuff! Bought my first acid toner yesterday..
ReplyDeleteGreat oil! Love the vid xx
ReplyDeleteHow often do you wash the flanel?
ReplyDeleteI use a clean one daily. I have around 30 to ensure there is always a clean one ready and waiting
DeleteHi, Caroline has previously advised you use a clean flannel each morning, rinse well, and use the same one in the evening - new flannel each day. You can order multi packs of cheap flannels online - I think I bought 12 for around £8-10. 😊
DeleteUse a clean one every day! I use a fresh one in the morning then the same to take off my make up etc in the evening. I got a big pile from idea... They're about £3 for ten!
DeleteWhat Rachel said. You can get cheap packs of flannels from primark or even from supermarkets. I got mine from John Lewis when they were on sale for 35p each. Get enough so that you can chuck them in to a weekly wash. I have around 10 and that plenty for me.
DeleteAlso superdrug do great offers on their flannels by1get1free etc I also like their texture its a great soft exfoliant x
DeleteThank girls! I going to stock up and start using flannels! xx
DeleteI always use a clean wash cloth. I have tons that I've bought over the years.
DeleteI never use the same washcloth twice! Clean one in the morning, clean one at night. They're cheap and easy to care for. (Hot water, Clorox, dryer, done.)
DeleteHow much will the box be? Thankyou! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteVery short and informative, I like! Q: when is the eye make up comes off? Before or after? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBefore first cleanse
DeleteI've been using my balm (Emma Hardy) and oil cleanser (Origins) on my eyes too, I don't seem to have any issues with doing that and my eyes are quite sensitive. I use a finer flannel, though. Any thoughts on whether I shouldn't be doing this?
DeleteI have sensitive eyes and take my (waterproof) eye makeup off with my first cleanse balm. I find it gentler and more effective than using a separate remover on cotton wool.
DeleteThank you! <3
DeleteTwo for two lady, I am getting really excited about this box 😝😝😝😝
ReplyDeleteCaroliiine, I'm so overexcited for this box.. On another note, I didn't quite tolerate the pixi glow tonic nor the Alpha H one.. Do you think good genes would suit a dry dehydrated but acne prone face of a 24 year old? And do you think Luna would already be beneficial?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for all your advice!
xx
I've had the same reaction and want to Know the same thing! Let me know if you gone out :)
DeleteSame! My face has become super dry and flaky since using pixi glow (every other evening) and Liquid Gold just once per week. Any advice/alternative?
DeleteGood genes from what I understand and my own usage is VERY punchy (also diff acids to H and Pixi).
DeleteI would concentrate on a gentler acid like maybe the zelens pads (it's not glycolic). Maybe the Dr Dennis Gross ultra gentle pads
I had the same issues and I stopped using so many acis toners. I now rely on the flannel to exfoliate and my skin has calmed down. I use alpha h sporadically and never leave it on for longer than a few minutes. Marco lens of zelens, I recall, recomends against glycolic acid as it is harsher than the other acids.
DeleteYou might just be intolerant to glycolic acid. Zelens do acid pads that do not have glycolic in them. A v cheap highstreet alternative (and also a lot weaker in strength) are the clearasil pads - they use Salicylic acid but do have an alcohol content if memory serves correctly. Also do you use a toning spray after you use the acid to rehydrate like caudalie grape mist or some rose water? That might help...
DeleteI have somewhat sensitive skin and use Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion every evening without issue. I've found it to be very effective (and affordable). Ruth Crilly is also a fan. Hope you find something that suits your skin.
DeleteI got my make-up done by a college student doing a Beauty Therapy HNC. We had to do the form filling bit. She told me I was the only person she's met as a client this year who double cleanses. 54 year old me! You might have noticed my halo shining...
ReplyDeleteDear Caroline, I wanted to ask you one question for ages. I have used loads of oils for cleansing and moisturizing (on damp, wet, dry face), but it always dries my skin out! I have dehydrated/dry/combo skin. What am i doing wrong? I have tried to find some info online, but no one ever said oils could be drying..
ReplyDeleteObviously not Caroline but I have that same issue with several all natural oils like rose and argan.. But no idea why
DeleteTHANK YOU!*runs off to buy TTDO*
ReplyDeleteThose little bumps when you rub clean fingers on clean skin pressing down in an upward motion. Is that just something all faces have? Is it a sign of go see a derm or just wash your face harder/differently? I only feel it when moving 'against' the skin, if I touch downward it isn't there. Thanks for this I've googled this so much, feel bit twattish at this point.
ReplyDeleteCould you do a similar video on a Sunday Facial please?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that video! It's really useful and helps to see what I should have been doing all this time. I'm looking forward to washing my face tonight :) Also looking forward to the upcoming mask posts!
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline! Off-topic question here, I hope you don't mind...
ReplyDeleteGiven your legendary and extensive beauty network, you wouldn't by chance have any hot tips for brilliant facialists in Sydney, Australia? I'd thought I'd check with Mistress Hirons before trusting my luck with whoever is being talked about in Vogue.
90% of my skin is in what I call 'good' condition. I just suffer from hormonal congestion along my jaw line, occasionally flaring to acne. But with salicylic and retinol in hand, I can usually keep visible spots at bay. But there is just this constant congestion... little bumps under the surface (99% sure it's not milia). I work a high pressure job so stress in general flares it up as well. I'm just after someone I can trust who can really target those areas, without having to run to a derma and be prescribed something that I don't think I really need.
I'm 29, combo skin, religious in 2xcleansing, spf and daily acids. Not at all averse to high tech treatments. Wow, this turned in to David Copperfield. I'll stop talking now! Thanks, Becca x
Hi MissBecca, I'm not Caroline, obviously, but I used to live in Sydney and see Mansoureh at "yours Beautifully" at their McMahons Point Branch. From the website I gather that the location on Blues Point Road is no longer, but if it's not too much out of your way, you can go to their Castlecrag branch. She does amazing facials, but is also good with the high tech stuff, like Omnilux or microdermabrasion. Hope this helps!
DeleteThank you so much for the reply Eveline, having had a look at their website it sounds like they might just be who I'm after. I'm in the inner west so it's not too far at all - in fact I used to live in Mosman, so know exactly where they are. I shall give Mansoureh a call. Thank you :)
DeleteOMG!!! It is exactly what I wanted! Caroline showing simple hand moves. Thank you for the video!
ReplyDeleteHave a feeling, this box is gonna be pricey.. Getting it anyway)
Caroline, can you explain what an affiliate link is please? I don't actual know what this is and what is different about it (sorry for being stupid...)
ReplyDeleteAn affiliate link means if you buy a product I've recommended on the blog by clicking on the link provided, I get a small % from the brand or retailer. And I mean small LOL - but it's one way of making the blog pay for itself without doing sponsored posts. I don't make nearly as much as I would if I DID do sponsored posts but I'm happier now not doing them. Please don't hesitate if you have any other questions. X
DeleteThank you for explaining this Caroline. It makes sense to me that you do get some sort of remuneration from the brands or retailers for your blogs. No one works for free and there is obviously a lot of time, effort and experience that goes into your reviews. I'm actually more likely to click on one of your links now, rather than google it. X
DeleteThis box is looking good, would love if an acid toner is in it too x
ReplyDeleteGood genes from what I understand and my own usage is VERY punchy (also diff acids to H and Pixi).
ReplyDeleteI would concentrate on a gentler acid like maybe the zelens pads (it's not glycolic). Maybe the Dr Dennis Gross ultra gentle pads
This is by far my favourite oil cleanser and delighted it's in the box. Looking forward to the remaining reveals...
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI like how clean my skin feels after using a flannel, but the issue I have is that sometimes, my skin feels sore after using it ( and I am gentle). I have stopped using muslin cloths as I felt my skin was sore afterwards - is this normal? i also wonder how gentle I should be around the eye area. tks!
I apply sunscreen at 6 am. I do not wear face makeup, only concealer under my eyes. I remove my eye makeup with a dedicated eye makeup remover and wash my face about 10 pm. Is double cleansing overkill with this routine?
ReplyDeleteNo. You need to use a makeup remover to remove the sunscreen in any case.
DeleteThanks for replying. I meant that I use a dedicated eye makeup remover then a balm or oil cleanser. I'm just wondering that if after that a 2nd cleanse is necessary as I don't wear face makeup (foundation, primer, etc).
DeleteYes. The 1st cleanse is removing your sunscreen. 2nd cleanse is for the skin
DeleteI don't think it's over kill. The first cleanse will remove the spf and the second will clean your skin.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI have a question. I'm sorry if it's a stupid one. What about your eye makeup? Do you remove that separately first? I keep on using wipes because I find them such a convenient way to remove mascara, and have always been intrigued by using a cream cleanser to remove makeup as a 'first cleanse' as I couldn't imagine how it would remove mascara / eyeliner etc. But maybe I've been getting confused?!
Remove eye makeup first.
DeleteAnd no wipes, unless: flights Fannie's festivals!
I personally like to use an oil cleanser first to get my make up off, I wear mascara and cream shadows everyday and it takes it off a treat. Likewise a good cream or balm will to. Much gentler for the eye area than a wipe & much less drying. I have 2 good budget oil cleansers, one is Una Brennan's Vit C cleansing oil (£10.99)& at only £3 ish, Superdrug's Micellar cleansing oil, which has some lovely oils in and does the job just as well.
DeleteYou have made it look so simple. I will be trying this tomorrow

Caroline - do you do any Skype (professional) consultations? I live in New York and need some advice and am kind of in a time sensitive situation. Would love to reach out to you but dont have contact information.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline
ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering if you could recommend a more affordable oil cleanser than the one in the post? Thanks x
Hi, I'm not Caroline but I love Una Brennan's Vit C one (£10.99) or Superdrugs Micellar cleansing oil, just £3 ish! Both work great for me, I have very dry skin.
DeleteThere are loads of the blog!
ReplyDeleteAll on her blog - incl. Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C+ which is available in most Boots stores.
ReplyDeleteThanks for demoing the therapist swipe. It is interesting to see which motions you use to massage and cleanse the skin, coming from someone who just rubs up and down and back and forth.
ReplyDeleteOk. Sold. If this box comes in in the same range as the previous boxes, I'm in.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI am a new fan of Tatcha and have recently bought the full range of their Indigo series. I was researching around and I found this blogger's review and... it was a really bad review.
May I have your thoughts on it? Is it really 'an American company that sells Japan-inspired, nicely packaged, ridiculously overpriced, but overall quite average cosmetics.' (Quoted from the blogger's website). I am quite upset after reading it.
Website: http://asianskincareblog.blogspot.sg/search/label/Tatcha
Thank you so much.
Xoxo
Fiona
It can be done in two minutes, but am I to blame if I like to take my time? These balms feel so lovely when massaged into the skin.

It sounds daft but just seeing you do this double cleanse is really helpful. I pretty much do what you do here Caroline but I don't think I go down the nose and up the cheeks in the same way, so will be doing that from now on! Love the videos and hope they'll be more in this line up. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThere are microbeads in the Clinique Cleansing balm...
ReplyDeleteHi Shana,
DeleteNo there isn't. The polyethylene in the TTDO is a thickener, not a microbead. x
Thank you, Caroline. You are right, no microbeads. I just assumed the polyethylene is still a microplastic and therefore bad for the environment...
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline. Love your work. I wonder what you think about using face oils as treatments for the night. I was recently told by a beautician that in general you should not leave oils on your skin for long and that they should be removed. I've been using trilogy coenzyme Q booster oil overnight and also adding a drop to my foundation but am wondering if I might be wrong to use it. I'm sure it all depends on the skin, ingredients and consistency but am just wondering why some beauticians seem to very much against using oils while oils are so popular at the moment. Thank you in advance.
ReplyDeleteThere are many recommendations for oils on the blog & I believe Caroline leaves them on!
DeleteHi Caroline, I have been wondering this since I started reading your blog awhile ago... When you say flannels, is that synonymous with washcloth? Or is it a specific type of fabric? I live in the US so am wondering if flannel is just a colloquial term...
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor :)
DeleteNot Caroline (obviously!) but yes, a washcloth and flannel are the same.
Hi Taylor, it is just the English colloquial term for washcloth, we call them flannels in Australia too. I remember being very confused many years ago when I read an American person talking about "flannels" and eventually worked out that they were referring to those checked lumberjack shirts made out of flannel. These days face flannels are, of course, usually made out of terry towelling.
DeleteThank you both!!! :)
DeleteThank you so much for this Caroline! It was great to watch! I had ask for it so I was extra happy to see it!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Caroline.. thank you so much for all of your precious advice....
ReplyDeleteI have a quick perhaps silly question... but do you dry your skin after the first cleanse and before the second cleanse ???
You should if you're using an oil cleanser as the 2nd so it doesn't emulsify
DeleteShould we double cleanse even if you have no makeup on that day?
ReplyDeleteYes if you're wearing SPF...
DeleteAnd what if you have VERY sensitive skin? I can't rub my face that much or use a flannel because my face gets very red and inflamed. Should I just do two cleanses without so much rubbing and without a flannel?
ReplyDeleteMerci!
Hi caroline!
ReplyDeletePlease can your recommend good balm/oil cleansers for sensitive, combination (prone to both eczema and acne) skin? Thanks so much! :)
I so dislike the term "double cleanse"! It makes it look like you're doing the same thing twice, when in fact you're not! You are removing make up and then cleaning your face!
