that guac looks amazing, as does your skin post holidays! I've recently been prescribed benzoyl peroxide (10%) for mild acne around my chin and jaw, but it leaves my skin very flaky and dry and it's really bothering me. I use my EH cleanser and used to use my Clarins exfoliating toner but have stopped, should i use clarins as well as benzoyl or steer clear? any tips for helping the dryness? thank you x
ReplyDeleteGet some facial oil on your skin. You can still use the Clarins just maybe not as often?
Deletei will do, thank you very much!
DeleteLys Mediterranee - OMG yes!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline have been following you since seeing you with Pixiwoo ,think your amazing and have read all your blogs i found myself talking a girl out of buying Bio-oil today in Boots ,gave her your name and told her to take a look on your blog, twitter etc .x
ReplyDeleteGood work! LOL thank you x
DeleteCan you recommend something to help clear up spots on my sons back and chest?
ReplyDeleteFish oil supplements, acidic toners and aha body moisturisers will start to help x
DeleteThat Peru Two photo is genius! Hahahahaha. Looks like you had a lovely holiday, it's good to have you back!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo - so wrong. Thank you - you too!
DeleteTotally agree with you about the Una Brennan oil needing a pump dispnser.
ReplyDeleteDrives me crazy.
DeleteBought the Clinique balm after the Boots Botanics one broke me out. It's amazing! My skin feels awesome. I've found a staple product.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What do think of Olays beauty fluid and their anti wrinkle eye gel?
I think they both contain mineral oil so I prob wouldn't use. x
DeleteFab. Ta :-) indeed labs is 1/3 off in boots at the mo so am giving their eye cream a go!
DeleteI am also looking forward to autumn, the colder weather just makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day

My derm has me using CeraVe and Retin-A. What are your thoughts? Any recommendations for someone with very dry skin who likes CeraVe?
ReplyDeleteWhat I looked at seemed ok. It's pretty generic thats prob why the derms like it. x
DeleteI love the Una Brennan oil. I actually used the pump that came with the Alpha H triple action cleanser and that worked like a charm. So that's a little tip if someone ones that one...
ReplyDeleteI have been using ren no.1 purity balm but I don't really see much benefit from it for my oily congested skin * sad face * but been thinking of trying clarins products. I currently have the face oil and love it.
ReplyDeleteMuch love and keep the great information coming our way :-)
Xx
I don't think it's the best for oily skins to be honest. A bit thick yes? Try some of the lighter ones - Clinique, Emma H.
DeleteYes totally agree quite thick.
DeleteWhich Clinique balm? I'm quite scared of Clinique after using their toner that stripped my face.
Still trying to find the correct products and routine for my skin. But will get their in the end with your guidance.
Thanks x

DeleteThe Clinique balm is the 'Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm'. I've got quite acne prone, combination skin and the Clinique hasn't done anything to irritate my face. HIGHY recommend *all caps were needed....* It's also Hirons approved.
Deletexo Lillian from parisiantobe.com
Thank you. I've bought the Clinique balm and also the superfacialist oil not sure what one to use first lol xx

ReplyDeleteGreat post :-) what a fantastic summer we have had this year - even those of us who haven't been to NYC! Two things: 1. Thanks for turning me from an acne riddled face (with big, sore cyst type spots) to a glowing (almost) spot free individual!!
ReplyDelete2. I spot the REN No 1 Purity Balm in your testing box. I would be interested in how you get on... I LOVE a balm (and cleansing in general actually...currently have EIGHT cleansers on the go!)but that REN cleanser STINGS MY EYES like nothing else. It puts me off using it for my first cleanse as I normally use them to remove my eye make up and can't do it with the REN. I note they have released a new purity balm - does this sting too??? LOVE YOUR WORK MRS HIRONS!!! Xxxxx
I'm not sure Heather - the jury is out to be honest. I'll see how I go.
DeleteCaroline, I absolutely loved all of these pictures but I actually weed a bit from laughing at the 'Peru 2' . My kids love watching grandma put her make-up on too. It makes me well up! Thankyou for helping me to love my skin x
ReplyDeleteAmazing - thank you for reading!
DeleteCaroline, I have been using jojoba oil from a health shop, as my cleansing oil, for about a month now. It is amazing. Have you an opinion? It's so much cheaper than something like una brennan or dermalogica pre cleanse!
ReplyDeleteIf it ain't broke don't fix it!
DeleteHi Caroline, thanks for all your posts! It does help us a lot! I also use jojoba oil on my face at night time. My skin loves it. Just wanted to share, maybe could help others. :)
DeleteHappy to hear you enjoyed NY!!!! I never heard of New London Pharmacy, what can we find there?? Anything like Hyaluronic???
ReplyDeleteIt's just a great family-owned pharmacy - real neighbourhood feel to it. Tons of products.
DeleteSighhh, I thought we could find what YOU have in London that we don't have ;-((
DeleteWhat a great summer, so does this mean the Cerave was a YAY or NAY?
ReplyDeleteThat particular one was a yay.
DeleteAnyone like Cerave with combo-oily skin.. if so which formula?
ReplyDeleteHello Caroline,
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great summer.
Loving the Peru Two photo, it's hilarious. Especially the HUGE bun!
I also had a sample of the Ren No1 balm and loved it but have just recently returned from a trip to Canada with Clinique Take the Day Off balm and Clarins Extra Comfort cleanser, neither of which I can get where I live. They are both wonderful, thanks for the advice. Would also be interested to know your thoughts on jojoba oil, too.
Its a good affordable alternative. x

ReplyDeletecould you tell us more about your diet?
ReplyDeleteCould be better, could be worse! I try and follow my own advice - it's by no means perfect though.
DeleteLove the Una Brennan Cleansing oil, but it's a mess trying to work the screwcork ! Screw the cork and make a pump please :) That said I've decanted it into a bottle with a pump !
ReplyDeleteNYC Is my favourite place to be, London being close second.
Thank you for all the new discoverys I've made in the skincare department, My face thanks you, my wallet not ;P ( I enjoy spending money on great skincare, hugs all my Kate Somerville )
Thank you for reading!
DeleteGreat summer summary.....we are just heading out of winter in Australia, so this is helping me get geared up for summer. Bring it on! Thankyou Caroline for all your info sharing. I am loving my new products (Emma hardie cleansing balm is lush) and my skin is hydrated for the first time in ages!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear! :)
DeleteLooks like you had a busy and exciting summer! I just wanted to thank you so much Caroline, well actually it's my breasts that really want to thank you, for recommending Starflower supplements for breast pain, it has made such a major difference!!
ReplyDeleteHi skincare- Oprah!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently a very poor student which means that I sadly have to cut down my skincare regime drastically. I am usually a member of the cleansing balm, double tone, serum, eye cream and moisturiser army but that will not be an alternative for me at least until next year. My skin is usually quite well behaved, I'd say normal/combination and sometimes a bit sensitive. Dehydrated rather than dry...21 years old and live in a warm climate (where they throw shrimps on the barbie to be exact). I am thinking a good cleansing balm (this is where I'll invest), a cheap but good toner and a hydrating day/night moisturiser. Dropping the eye cream and choosing either a serum, mask or exfoliator...what do you reckon? Or should I just get down on my knees and start praying that skincare will start falling down from the sky?
Lots of love, sun and summer,
Caroline R x

ReplyDeleteI'm so obsessed with your blog. I love that you thank your time to answer so many questions from your readers. :)
ReplyDeleteMy skin has never looked better after using products from your recommendations.
I can't thank you enough! :)
Looking forward to many new blog posts from you.
Even this relatively innocuous post from you made me laugh!!! Thanks, and thanks a lot from my lovely smooth summer skin!!! Though I'm definitely not looking forward to winter and grey skies...
ReplyDeleteCaroline - I've also suffered from lots of digestion woes (mainly a parasite that has been having a ball in my system for the last 20 years, so it appears, but took forever to diagnose), and have been on a very strict diet for the past 1.5 years.
No veggies form the cabbage/ broccoli family at all, no raw veggies at all (gives me cramps!!!???), coffee only after breakfast and a big glass of lukewarm water, hardly any processed food and absolutely no sugar (or honey or agave syrup etc). Only fruit. To top that I'm a vegetarian and have fish intolerance!!! Woe the person that wishes to invite me for dinner...
The sugar part is hard at the beginning (you have to learn the ingredient lists in the supermarket by heart...), but after a couple of months it's absolutely wonderful, and I can still bake with stevia or other 100% fruit derived stuff. Not to mention what it does for your skin!
Good luck - hope you feel better soon!!!
what do you think of the clarins facial oils? i'm looking at the blue orchid one in particular for the upcoming winter season. my skin is combo but the lotus one contains vitamin e which tends to break me out (alpha h spf 50 i'm looking at you!). i'm so scared of using a facial oil as EVERYTHING seems to break me out but the blue orchid seems to contain minimal ingredients that have a comedogenity rating of 0. think i just need to bite the bullet and try it!!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to be nosy and butt in... was wondering if you have broken out with other Vit E products before? That Alpha-H moisturizer has mineral oil in it. Maybe that could have been the culprit? I was about to buy the alpha-h discovery kit and was disappointed, when checking the ingredients, to find out about the MO content :(
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI just love to read your blog. I had a question.. I am on my sixth month of Roaccutane for my pretty bad cystic acne problem (20 mg a day) and i haven't had a pimple in more than three months now so it is going really well. But now I have these slightly raised scars.. My derm says it will heal eventually, but is there any skincare product you recommend that wil help to heal these scars? Thank you!
Caroline may have more--and better!-- recommendations for you, but I wanted to mention that I've found BR Lotion P50 (the original version) is really helping with acne scarring, especially in terms of raised scars. I noticed an improvement within a week or so of beginning to use it. Perhaps give it a try if you have access to the non-EU version. (The phenol-free version may also help, but I can't say.)
DeleteGreat post. This is the summer where I changed my skincare routine and I have you to thank for that. Out went the products that didn't make an improvement or made my oily skin worse and in came the new products you recommended. In a few short weeks the bumps from my jaw line have gone and my skin feels great. I'm just a bit impatient and can't wait for the acne scars and discolourations to go. What exfoliating products do you recommend for someone who has a sensitivity to salicylic acids? I'm currently using the Kate Somerville clarifying toner and Pepta-Bright, but I'm not sure if this is going to give me the results that I'm craving for. Even toned and less oilier skin is my ultimate goal. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThat dude in the yellow is def eyeing up the Real Techniques brush, all you need is a speech bubble 'now where can I get me one of them girl'!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work love, my bathroom is bursting at the seams through your recs and my skin is loving it!
Becky
Hi Caroline! Your summer looked fabulous you lucky duck!
ReplyDeleteI have just a few quick questions if you have the time? :)
For the record I have Oily, acne prone skin around my chin and jaw line.
Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner for an everyday evening toner? (Deironized Water (Aqua), Aloe (Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice) Gel, Grapefruit (Citrus Gradis Fruit) Extract, Glycolic Acid (2%).)
If nay can you please recommend one?
Can you please recommend me a 2nd cleanser? Right now I'm using Philosiphy Purity (which is foaming).
Derm Pre Cleanse or Take the day off?
Thanks a bunch Caroline, any help would be greatly appreciated as I live in Australia and I can't get to London for a consultation! :)xx
Your summer looks so eventful, I adore it. Mine seems as though it was a blur.

I bought Clinque Take The Day Off also! Probably for the same reason! I just look at it and smile (-:
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing pics! I had a friend send me some of the Cerave for oily skin and it's not bad - even though it says 'foaming' it's not stripping. Is the pink room your living room? I get that you are a bold person so I'm just curious. It's a brave choice! Your Mum's makeup is fabulous!! Frédéric Malle's Therese is so unique. I'd like to try more nose loving from him. I do have a little question if you wouldn't mind.... If I have capillaries on the side of my nose does that mean I have sensitive skin and can't use certain products? Thanks, Caroline. Much love.
ReplyDeleteHmm...that Cerave cleanser is the best I have found of all the ones I have tried over the years. I hate foaming, stripping, drying nonsense. If I wanted to 1) avoid either balm-type or foaming cleansers and 2) step it up to something you'd rate higher than "not heinous", what would you suggest? (Btw: oily, dehydrated, sensitive, acne prone. But managing all these things nicely by following your advice, thankyouverymuch!)
ReplyDeleteHi, ı will be in New York soon and thinking about whitening my teeth there as well. Can you recommend a place? Which is not too agressive to my teeth?!
ReplyDeleteThanks xx
Dear Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog since i saw you on Pixiwoo and my skin has never looked more hydrated or happy! Not really one for writing comments but wowzer Lady, credit where credit's due!
Have combo/pimple prone skin and Clinique TTDO, Clarins Gentle Exfoliator, Clarins Hydra Matte Combination skin and Clinique Super City Block have sorted me out! Was super happy to find all these products readily available in Johannesburg South Africa.
Really enjoy your no nonsense say it like it is attitude, very refreshing!
