My reddish, reactive skin (see Sunday's post) pushed me towards products I knew wouldn't cause the same thing, When I pulled this out and realised it hadn't been on the blog, I thought I would right that wrong.
What is it?
Although the Pomegranate range is aimed at an older skin or to put it officially, it *addresses the signs of ageing*, the Softening Cleanser is one of those products where you don't have to follow that to the letter.
What's in it?
Lifted straight from TBS website! *high fives The Body Shop team all round*
Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Isododecane (Solvent), Glycerin (Humectant), Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil (Emollient), Glycine Soja Oil (Emollient/Skin Conditioner), Sucrose Cocoate (Emollient), Betaine (Hair Conditioning Agent), Caprylyl Glycol (Skin Conditioning Agent), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer (Emulsion Stabiliser), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (Stabiliser/Viscosity Modifier), Parfum (Fragrance), Squalane (Hair & Skin Conditioning Agent), Bisabolol (Skin Soothing Agent), Creatine (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Punica Granatum Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent - Emollient), Butylene Glycol (Humectant), p-Anisic Acid (pH Modifier), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Carbomer (Stabiliser/Viscosity Modifier), Punica Granatum Extract (Natural Additive), Polysorbate 60 (Surfactant), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract (Natural Additive), Hydroxycitronellal (Fragrance Ingredient), Pentylene Glycol (Solvent), Secale Cereale Seed Extract (Natural Extract), Ursolic Acid (Fragrance Ingredient).
What isn't in it?
Mineral oil, animal derivatives, parabens (for those that care)
Who is it for?
I would say that most skins are able to use this cleanser. If you were particularly spotty it might be better than a lot of milk options that tend to always include shea butter at quite a high %.
Anyone over 30 or with particularly dry skin should check it out.
What's good about it?
Readily available to patch test! *high fives TBS again*
Removes makeup with ease but I would use another separate eye makeup remover if you wear heavy duty EMU.
What's not so good about it?
It does contain fragrance but my skin is perfectly fine with it.
How do you use it?
Apply a couple of pumps to your palm on a dry hand, do the therapist 'swipe' (see previous posts - maybe I should do an Instagram 15 second video?), apply directly to dry skin and massage in. Remove with a warm washcloth (flannel!) and repeat if necessary. I tend to use this either as a morning cleanse or a quick 2nd cleanse in the evening.
Pomegranate Softening Cream Cleanser is a bargainous £11.00 for 200ml and is available at all outlets including online: www.thebodyshop.co.uk/pomegranate-softening-cream-cleanser
*Sorry about the stock picture. I can either write the review or take nice pictures, I can't always do both. Imagine it on a blurred background surrounded by fairy lights and candles. There you go!

Oh I was just looking at this line! Thoughts on the day/night cream? Sidenote, do we really need to buy seperate night creams if our day cream doesn't have SPF in it to begin with?
ReplyDeleteIf you have a moment - I'm considering cutting out foods to address my extremely hormonal chin (red, blotchy, covered in cystic acne). What should I start with? Dairy, caffeine or (sob) sugar? I rarely have dairy outside of coffee. And have max 3 caffeine drinks a day. But my chin is carazay and my routine ain't helping it (after endless money on new products and months of trying). Thanks xxx
ReplyDeleteCutting down on dairy has been the best thing I've ever done for my skin! Sugar is also a problem, and annoyingly dairy and sugar often go hand in hand in a single food item (cakes, chocolate, biscuits etc.). If I ever have a breakout, it's always because I've let my diet slip. If your coffee choice is something milky like a latte, a couple of those everyday adds up to a lot of dairy. It might be that even a small amount is a problem for you. Try cutting it out completely for two weeks, keeping everything else the same. If your skin clears up, it'll most likely be that dairy or refined sugar is the culprit. Re-introduce dairy slowly and see what happens (hard cheese has low levels of lactose) :) Good luck! x
DeleteLOL to the * Note!! X
ReplyDeleteYou are the one person I trust with skin care advice for my red, spotty, awful skin!
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so easy to read, to the point and honest! Love it! Thanks again! :) xxx
what is the therapist 'swipe' Caroline?xx
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a really lovely cleanser. I may have to give it a shot.

Would this be better for a second cleanse, rather than first?
ReplyDeleteSee Caroline's post above "Apply a couple of pumps to your palm on a dry hand, do the therapist 'swipe' (see previous posts - maybe I should do an Instagram 15 second video?), apply directly to dry skin and massage in. Remove with a warm washcloth (flannel!) and repeat if necessary. I tend to use this either as a morning cleanse or a quick 2nd cleanse in the evening."
DeleteNevermind, didn't read properly, sorry!
ReplyDeleteInstagram 15 sec video please! :D
ReplyDeleteYES PLEASE CAROLINE!
DeleteNice Post Caroline! Always great to have a cheaper cleanser alternative! Especially in January when i have spent too many pennies in Whistles & Daniel Wellington! (Sorry, Not Sorry)

Ooo I think I will try this one, I really like TBS face cleaning oil so might get both to try for my double cleanse.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review :-)
Wonder if you can do recommendations for face psoriasis, I am having a terrible time, tried everything. Eye area is the worst, just doesn't want to go away despite the fact I moisturise all the time.
ReplyDeletePlease help. Thank you!
Hi Caroline, would you recommend this as a morning cleanser for acne prone combination sensitive skin? I have followed your advice regarding eating habits (no more cheese :( ) and my skin is way much better, but I can,t find an appropriate morning cleanser which doesn,t break me out or dehydrate my skin. Currently I am using La Roche Posay Hydraphase Legere moisturizer which has been helpful but my cleanser Apivita is too stripping for using in the mornings, also it is foaming. I have been thinking about buying Clinique take the day off cleansing balm although I almost never wear makeup, could I use it on his own as a morning cleanser? Also, what non-foaming cleanser shoud I purchase?
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I wish I had found it before I paid a dermatologist just to recommend me to use the brands available in the pharmacies.
PS: I,m 23 and twice a week I use daily microfoliant of Dermalogica and I think it has helped with my blackheads but they are still there, all over my nose, my chin and my cheeks.
I would highly recommend Clinique TTDO balm. I have combination/oily/sensitive skin and it's improved my skin a lot. I also purchased it as a Christmas present for a friend and she is over the moon with how it is clearing her skin up
DeleteThank you! :) I will buy it this same afternoon. I was convinced by Caroline,s post that I needed it but I wasn,t sure if I was too crazy to use it as a cleanser.
DeleteI was looking at this just the other day and bought from the camomile range instead of this one because it really seemed to focus on anti-ageing. I think I'll pick it up as a nice morning cleanser.
ReplyDeleteO2 priority has 35% off at TBS at the moment! Good time to try out some new bits so thanks for the review :) xx
ReplyDeleteThe note made me laugh so hard. You are brilliant!

I'd much rather have your advice than fancy pictures, not that I noticed any issue with the picture in the first place. Lisa
ReplyDeleteYes, please do an instagram video on how to use!! Or even better, a YouTube video demonstrating your routine so we can see the expert in action ;)
ReplyDeleteLove you and your blog, you've made me actually enjoy taking care of my skin! xxx
Yes please to the Instagram video!
ReplyDeleteYes please an instagram video would be great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another lovely, gorgeous post!

Sounds lovely! I've been getting on really well with their Camomile silky cleansing oil so will definitely give this a try when I finish my Aurelia cleanser! p.s the technique on instagram would be great!

yes to the instagram video
ReplyDeleteI got this and flannels today because of you. It doesn't make my skin feel tight and it even smells nice. I was told my skin looks too young for this (I'm 28 years old) at the shop, so I told her I read a great review on it for dry skin too.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I left a long comment on an earlier post asking for advice. I'm reading a lot of your posts and am trying things out now. Thank you! :)
Love this! I too, am afflicted with the same problem–it's either a good post or a good picture. I'm incapable of doing both at the same time. Love a good oil cleanser, for the times I can't be fussed to DIY.

Please do instructional videos, therapist swipe, how to wash your face, how to use a mask etc. thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteI'd also love to see you in action with your evening skincare routine Caroline if it's possible.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Review over picture every time! Thanks Caroline :)
ReplyDeleteoooh love the sound of this...hopefully will help with the stubborn spots on my jaw :)

Video pleeeeeaaaase!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish! The have hydrating toners like the aloe one that Caroline suggested. She does recommend Oxy pads with fruit acids but I have yet to see them where I live. I love the First Aid Beauty ones.
ReplyDeleteI bought this cleanser last week and I've been really pleased with it. Even my hubby has started getting into beauty! He's been cleansing and moisturising every night. He suffers with a dry scalp so next up is a SLS free shampoo. We also have our eyes on silk pillowcases!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if this is across the board but it's being discontinued here in Canada! On sale now for $5! The sales associate said she hoped the packaging would just be revamped but who knows???
ReplyDeleteI think this is on sale on the U.S. website. I'd like to try this, but shipping is as much as the product, haha. Oh well, I'll treasure what little left I have of my Nutriganics Softening Cleansing gel oil.
ReplyDeleteFyi the body shop often reformulate a product and the website isn't always updated. I bought a body butter that was supposed to be free of sesame seeds, I had a massive allergic reaction to it only to find out they reformulated. Tbs righted the wrong for me, but just be sure to read the ingredients before you buy on the actual bottle.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to decide between this and the chamomile cleansing oil in the shop yesterday, and thought because the tester bottle for the chamomile had gone all slimy and sticky, and the label was peeling off, that that might happen in my bathroom too. So I bought this one. Big mistake! I find the smell really overpowering, almost immediately after applying my face starts to sting, and it leaves my skin feeling tight. Back to Lush Ultrabland for me!
ReplyDeleteOh God I hate this cleanser! It really stings and burns my eyes and the area around my mouth. Was so painful that I felt like screaming. What a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteI bought this today and thought it stings too around my mouth. I thought it might have just been from a few random hormonal spots that I dont usually have, and then my boyfriend tried it and said the same thing. disappointed. :(
DeleteTotally sad about this product. Like the two commenters directly above me I found this to sting like mad! What I am really looking for is a great all-around gentle cleanser that I can use several times a day without any ill affect (not that I would daily but sometimes I am in great need of cleaning actual physical dirt of my skin so I wash my face more often) and unfortunately I can't even use this once :( I'm starting to think I might be allergic to something in the body shop range?? This is the first product I've used from them since having the same reaction to the Vit E products years ago. So sad.
